Just curious, has anyone here tried using a small animal waterer, like the water bottles that you use for rabbits, guinea pigs, etc, with chameleons? Does that work?
I've tried it, but I found he never actually drank from it and it ended up with algae in it. I believe it's a suggestion in one of the really small basic chameleon books. (I think I read about it when I was 8 or so....)
EDIT: Most small animal waterers leak at a steady rate of a drip per second or two, so basically they're just drippers. So if you want to use one for a dripper dont buy the nice expensive ones.
I recommend buying/making a dripper if you're going to use it as a dripper. If you actually think your cham may drink from one of these though, then go ahead. It's mainly because drippers work better than these things.
Hi Kara,
I was going to use it as a dripper so I guess I will go ahead and get one. I might go ahead and leave a bottle in there too and see how it goes.
Alright, well if you ever get a small animal PM and I can tell you the better brands that dont leak If you do want one that leakes, a no name plastic one that isn't spring loaded would probably be the best choice.
Well, I was thinking of one that would drip so that cham would notice it and use it as a water source. I am not sure if the cham would drink from one that isn't dripping. I believe I read that the shiny tip would entice it but I am not sure.
Some chams will try to shoot at shiney stuff (the ball), which now that I think about it sounds dangerous... Ahh, maybe you shouldn't use one. What if he shoots at it and he pushes the ball back with his tongue and then pulls it but his tongue to too fat and he pinches it between the ball and the tube! Or I could just be over thinking it... Who knows?
