Just bought a Jacksons cham

I was looking at YouTube videos yesterday of people with their new Jacksons and couldnt stand it anymore, had to check stock at my friends of FL Chams for a male Jacksons, which they did have.
So, I clicked the "buy now" button!!

I then realized that I had just bought their last male!!

So, if you are looking for one, you can skip FL Chams!! ;)

I was hoping they would be able to pack and mail him out yesterday since I placed the order at 3pm, and i know they wait until late afternoon for their FedEx pickup.
But I havent heard from them yet, so I guess he wont ship out until Tuesday (Monday being a holiday!!)

I had a male Jacksons way back in the late 1970's.
No one knew anything about them! i could find no books or any care info at all.
I even called every zoo on the east coast and was told the same thing; "we dont have them because they die for no apparent reason"!!

I love Jacksons, even if they dont color up like a panther. I love their body shape and the way they look and move.
I dont think any cham collection is complete w/o a male Jacksons :)

Anyway, this means i will have 3 chams; expecting a male panther from the Kammer's next month, got a male juvie vailed, and now a Jacksons!!

My living room will be taken over by chams :)

I would love to let them all "free range" and just turn them loose in the house! ;)

LOL! congrats on such a nice clutch of eggs, and good luck finding homes for them :)
I have a HUGE cage for Jacksons in storage from years ago, so at least I dont need to buy a new cage ;)

P.S. BTW, I own a house by myself, so I can do as I please ;)

I also have a bunch of fluorescent fixtures collecting dust.

This cage is going to rule my living room! may need to dump some useless furniture to make room! ;)

Poor Kermit, he gets no respect. Just " on vacation with another forum member to get laid". No respect but hopefully some love.:D

My collection consists of one male Jackson! I wanted one for 4 years after joining CF and finally got my baby boy at the end of October last year. Like you say, they may not have the bright colours, but they do some amazing shades of green and yellow, and the horns are something else! :D After wanting one for so long he hasn't disappointed! :D

They are wonderful animals, so calm and peacefull.

I got my guy (havent named him yet) Wednesday and he seems to be acclimating well.
Keeping him mostly covered with black sheet to reduce stress and put some cricks in his feeder yesterday. Dont know yet if he ate them as I do not yet want to disturb him.

Yesterday, he was hidding in his ficus tree but this morning he was up in the top, sitting comfortibly on a branch.
He didnt seem the least bit upset about seeing me or getting his morning spray.

I like how you think. I dont have my own place yet but i keep packing away furniture in my bedroom to make more space for critters!

Couldnt wait to come home from work today to check on him.
He was sitting on a branch just chilling! I misted him first thing then looked for the cricks I had put in there yesterday right before putting his cover over the cage.

I could not find even one! so, I got a nice fat silkworm (this things really grow fast!!) and tried to hand feed him, being sure not to get any closer then about 3 inches.
He would not eat it out of my hand, but he was not the least bit affraid of it either.
I gently put the worm on the branch in front of him and backed away.
Then he ate it!!

So, at least I have seen him eat, and he already does not mind me being close, so I think I am on the right path with him and I am happy :)

I also put some cricks in his crick-feeder, but he hasnt gotten the hang of that yet!!

I hope to see a nice big healthy poop on the floor tomorrow ;)

With such fast progress, maybe I can take a few pics this weekend

Our dude red scorpion

My first post! Not sure if it is being done correctly. This is our Jackson. Red scorpion, beautifully named by my 5 year old boy. He was rather pissed off during the picture. We had just moved him into his new cage. The old one was a sorry excuse of a cage. I blame myself for not properly researching adequate care of a Cham, but rather, oh aunt gave us a free cage? Let's put a Cham in it. It was glass with a screen top, and not NEARLY size appropriate. Or furnished appropriately. We fell in love with him, despite our blatant disregard to adequate living. Our love turned into an addiction. Upon researching panthers after owning red scorpion for three months, we realized we were horrible parents. Our feeding was terrible to. Absolutely no gut loading or dusting was happening. I'm happy to say, we have decided to hold off on another Cham purchase. We are devoting out time and attention to red scorpion. Who is now happily living in a 24"x24"x48" cage with real ficus, fake vines of different diameter, proper UVB and basking lights, getting routine misting sessions of approx. 1 -3 minutes. Depending in humidity readings, and a variety of organic produce gut loaded insects who have their own appropriate living facilities too. All of which were purchased with what we were going to spend on the new Cham. Although a panther is still on our mind, we are satisfied with just being a proper home for red scorpion, who is now consistently staying like green!

Enjoying a new life

Here's another of red scorpion. The morning after he enter his new cage. He was leaned back just soaking up the "sun" our pesticide free ficus had not yet arrived!
