Just a couple simple questions

I have a female jackson's chameleon that is about 10 months old. She eats real well. The question is, is one bowel movement every two days healthy? Also, how much should she be eating on a daily basis? Ive been told wax worms should be fed as a treat because they are high in fat. So, how often should she get a treat?

Thanks,
Vince

I don't think that is very normal...at least the poop every other day...But some humans are that way too.

I think we need more information RE your husbandry

can you visit this short cut and add the appropriate info.

As far as the wax worms. So long as they don't comprise the bulk of Her diet I think one a day shouldn't be so bad...

Hope that helps...

More infor please

I wouldn't worry about the bowel movements .. one every other day, or every two days is normal.
My male veiled often goes six weeks without a bowel movement.
If she enjoys the waxworms, don't get too freaky about rationing them out ... a couple here and there is fine. They are not a staple though, and should be cut out completely if she starts to look a little hefty.

Glad to hear that about your male veiled Brad. My male eats 6 3/4" crickets every other day and poops about every 10-14 days. I wouldn't worry about ever other day.

Howdy Vince,

As was already mentioned, now is a good time to fill-out the "Help" questionnaire (then turn your head to the right and cough ).

"Eating real well" can be open to a lot of interpretation. The questionnaire will cover how much and what she eats, so I'll refrain from asking right here :).

Like Brad noted; based on his healthy chameleon's poop pattern, it all depends. Pooping frequency (and quantity) is often tied to the type, quantity and frequency of feeders being consumed. After I reduced the quantity and frequency of food intake by my Panther and Veiled, fecal production dropped from both of them almost to the same output frequency of two weeks. My adult chameleons, both over 4 yrs-old, are fed about 2 large food items, or the equivalent, every other day. This could be 2 large silkworms or hornworms or roaches or superworms. Although they don't have much interest in crickets, I suppose 4-5 medium crickets would be the equivalent. This feeding schedule has maintained their weight at a constant level of about 250 grams for the Nosy Be' Panther and 180 grams for the Veiled, both males. If the fecal matter doesn't seem to be out of the ordinary in terms of the amount per pooping and seems to fit a regular pattern and the chameleon is healthy otherwise, then I think you are safe.

Maybe a waxworm or two a once or twice a week would seem reasonable since there are no particular problems with her.

What part of the world are you located?
