I have a female jax with me at work. she is supposed to be shipped to another forum member this afternoon.

up till today shes been doing fine, eating, drinking etc.

now she is closing her eyes.

her brother, who was in the same cage with her, and is also here at work, is fine.

shes a couple months old.

shes spent the morning chilling on a small ficus plant.

hoping its jsut the ficus that got to her..

any ideas?

ive already rinsed her eyes. no shes not asleep. she opens them if i touch her.

Is it pretty dark at work? She may have thought it was lights out time?
It may be time to fill out "the form"

nope not dark at all.

heres meh form.

female jax 3-4 months old had for about 3 weeks
no handling.
fed 3-4 smlal crickets/bb flies a day.
supplemented, repashy once a week
fecal is fine. the normal...
cage- 16x16x30 mesh.
watering- mistking goes off every 2 hours for 1 minute- always drinks when i watch
temps- 82 basking.
ligths- house bulb- reptisun 5.0 tube.
plants- pothos
location quiet room with the other chams

problem- keeps shutting her eyes, but this just started today when i brought her to my job to be shipped to a forum member.

i took her outside. shes been outside for at least 30 minutes now.. and she hasnt shut them since.

?

How are you keeping them? How long have they been "at work"?

Do you have pictures of her?

I dont think it has anything to do with the ficus.

Going outside may have made her open her eyes, but it does not mean there is not an issue.

what do you mean how am i keeping them? you mean here at work?
they are just sitting on my desk plant.

theyve been in their cage until this morning since i was supposed to ship them this afternoon.

il post some new pix in one second.

and her eyes are now closed again.

Could be a sign shes sick(infection?).

Have there been any other signs of illness?

Any wide fluctuations of temp?

Is she active outside?

ive got a call into my vet to get me an appt soon.

temps never fluctuate more than a degree or two.. i check them daily.

she was active outside.. crawling everywhere..

there were no other signs until this morning. she ate fine, never shut eyes, drank water.

pix will be loaded momentarily, waiting for them to get to my emial.

Could the air be too dry for her?

outside seems more humid and everytime i take her out she opens her eyes and looks around... 5 steps back into the building... she closes them.:confused::confused:

She looks a little dry yes, and a bit scrawny, IMHO.

Thats about the age everyone says they start having issues though, and start to die off at random. ;/

Id keep her in an enclosure, with lots of foliage, and give lots of mistings for now. Im sorry, I dont have any more to input really.

I think she was sucking it in in those pix. she normally doesnt look that skinny.

She eats, ive seen her.

I know they do the random die off. whcih scares me. :(

SHes not being shipped today thats for sure.

I get off in about an hour and half.. and shes going straight home to get a long warm shower.. see if she will eat.. and a quarentine cage.

Do you have a solarmetr? If so have you checked the levels of uvb in her set up recently. I assume the bulbs were new or at least not past their "6 month life" but I have recieved NEW bulbs that have barely put out anything, even past there break in period.

Is the amount of food(4 small crix/bb flies) all she will eat? What have you been gutloading with? Younger chams should be.eating much more imo

I dont have one no. They are new, maybe 2 months old, if that.

thats all she will eat yes. I offer more.. but she never seemed interested, figured that was normal since jax dont eat alot of food.

I gutload the crix with apples, oranges, mustard greens, collard greens(every other week), carrots, dandilion leaves, butternut squash, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, various other stuff i find from sandracahemelons blogs.

ground almonds, ground beech nuts, i8 just added bee pollen cuz i just found some.

I agree thats a low amount of food intake for one that young.

Stella did not eat less than 8 or so crickets until she was past a year old.

Im no expert (as you well know) but sounds like maybe a parasite issue.

Id also recommend getting a good dry gutload as well.

welp... we need a poo for her to get tested... so far... didn tfind one.. still waitng on my vet to call back..

she likes flying foods.. i gave her as much as she would eat, then added a few extra bugs JIC. i only ever SAW her eat 4-5 though. but she drinks like a champ.

we are going back outside until i get off work.

hope she makes it to a vet. :(

been trying to find ingredietns from snadras blogs for dry gutloads.. havent really found a whole lot, and i wont feed that comemrical stuff..

i have bug burger on order.. should be here in a day or so.

All that is good. Bulbs should be good. She does look a little skinny like snake said but that shouldnt be the issue. Im not sure the humidity is the issue, especially since she has only been without it for a short period of time. But a long warm shower is always good once in a while. Hopefully it will help. I wish I could help you out but im stumped now... Ot would probably be good to get her as much natural sunshine as possible til she gets better.
Wait..... Has she been getting any outside time?

We havent had any good enough weather for outside time. rainy or too cold. Or I wasnt home to watch.. i take cages outside.. but i dont trust me neighbors to not steal the cage/cham.

But shes outside right now.

Im totally stumped too. Shes been fine up till this morning, and this morning is when i brought her to work.

I havent handled her since i got her. picked her up to take her out of the box, and put her in the cage. other than that. havent touched her till this morning.
