Jackson's male and female

Hey guys, i've got two jackson's chameleons. I've had them for a little over a year. They've been kept together in a large cage since I got them.

I was originally planning on purchasing another cage and getting it setup. (I do have another cage, but it's small) They have got along fine though and have had no problems whatsoever. My main concern is that they would constantly be breeding...I wanted to let her have babies one time and then separate them. They were my very first chameleons so I didn't really know much about them when I started. I'm still no expert, but I know a lot more.

During the whole year they've been together in the cage, there still have not been any babies. I've not seen him show any interest in her at all really.

How can I make him interested in her?

Seperate them for a few weeks and then start showing her to him once a week and check for interest.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder.

Seriously- in the 90s I tried pairs of several species together, and they were fine for a year or so in large enclosures. But breeding went down to almost nothing. Cohabitation, for my chameleons, made sexual behavior far less common- probably to keep the peace or as a low-grade stress response from being constantly together.

The downside of trying this is that you may never get them to live together peacefully again once you seperate them out. Basically you have to figure you will be back at square one as far as their relationship goes. Also, once gravid, your female will not want the male around...

I see. That makes sense. The other cage I have is the smaller one. I really don't want to put either of them in that one..I guess it's time to buy a new cage. I may just not breed them either. I'm not sure yet.
