i have recently picked up a Male and Female Jacksons Chameleons Wild Caught from California. How can you tell what subspecies they are? Either jacksonii jacksonii or yellow crested., is there a way to tell the difference??
Those are the Trioceros jacksonii xantholophus. Unfortunately people use many different common names which can cause confusion between the three species.
Thank you for the quick response and the confirmation. I thought that's what subspecies they were. The company that I had purchased from had them listed as WC Jacksonii Jacksonii subspecies but, I do know the xantholophus are the most common among JC kept.
The Male has been the color as in photos since I have gotten 1/12/16. If you noticed in the first photo the Female is more of a lighter brown/beige but, as about 30 minutes later she is a darker brown. They both have lapped up water off the leaves and from the drip system. Both have ate 1 small Dubia roach and meal/super worms but, she might still be alittle stressed out from the shipping and new environment/enclosure.
I have them both in a custom built enclosure that measures 36"high X 30"wide X 18"deep. The enclosure is divided evenly so each are in a 36"h X 15"w X 18"d. The custom built enclosure only has wood on the back, bottom and the divider piece. All other sides are screened in, for air flow.
As time goes on I plan on building another the same method but, each side will be 24"x24x48 each...
