jackson's chameleon

Hello. I am a new member, and don't currently own any chams. I plan on getting a jackson's soon. (don't freak out, i work well with arboreal lizards.) anyway, my question is, will a jackson's cham eat canned bugs that are brought to "life" in a vivicator feeding cup?

never try it, but my guess is that the chameleon will freak out by the vibration, If I remember right, vibrating is a self defense mechanism for chameleon, I my self haven't had good luck with dead insects but it possible to train the using pincer

also, i was wondering if i should get an african cham instead. i found cb's on flchams.com, and apparently those are pretty hard to find.

Chams aren't daft! My Carpet baby won't eat any cricket that isn't moving. If there is a dead one or one that is dying in his cup he leaves it untouched he will eat the rest and leave the dead/dying one in there.

I am not sure if it wont work but I remember reading something about vivration on chameleonnews

it's my dad who's against live food, not me. if i get the cham, i'll try canned with different techniques, and if that doesn't work, i'll do live.

well dude, I am speaking from experince, if you are still living at your parents house you may want to wait with buying a cham, it will be more comfortable for everyone:)

I think I would solve the "live" issue before committing to any chameleon. There's a big difference between a canned (cooked or processed in some way) insect and a live one. Chams are probably also stimulated by the insect's movements once it is in their mouth. Who knows if a cham would even chew and swallow an object that does not move at all (so that vibrating bowl idea would only get the food to the mouth but the cham may just spit it out). And, you can't keep any cham healthy without being able to gutload a live insect with fresh ingredients, or only feeding it one or two types of bugs.

if this person does not want to listen to us and he is still going to use the vibrating bowls dont evven bother spreading knowledge that they wont listen to

dont say that yet, "knowledge is not knowledge unless it is shared" remember that quote before you post something like that ;)

im going to say live is the only way you can go, talk to your dad about how live feeders arent bad or gross! explain it and give him a list of how you will keep them contained. just a suggestion

Hello, welcome to the forum :) Honestly, live is the only way to go with a Chameleon for all the reasons mentioned. Even in the unlikely event the Chameleon was comfortable with it there would be health problems as the canned foods are so unhealthy. A variety of feeders is best for any lizard really, but more important for Chams than most - https://www.chameleonforums.com/blogs/sandrachameleon/74-feeders.html
