If ambient heat is an issue, can I eliminate basking light for Jackson to keep temp down? Does he have to have basking light if he has 5 UVB and ambient temp in 80s? Plenty of 'cool light' from plant lights and window. Without basking light, rest of gradient is near his ideal.

It can, and should be turned off, if ambient heat is in the 80's, as it will cause undesirably high temps in the enclosure.

I try and keep my jackson under 85F, with an ideal temp being 83-ish.

Thank you very much! I will turn off basking light before Andrew arrives. That will be much easier and cheaper than cooling his space.
