Hi I'm new to the forum and I was wondering if someone could help me. I purchased a Jackson chameleon about two months ago at a reptile expo. When I got him home I noticed that the end of his tail was dead and all dried up. Hes been in shed for about three weeks now but when I got home from school today the end of his tail had fallen off what should I do should I be worried? Hes still acting normal hes still using it to climb and stuff. Also if a chams tail falls off all the way how does this effect them?

Please Help

tail problems

I am experiencing the same thing with my blue bar ambilobe. I have had him for over a year and all of a sudden I look in and the same thing. I thought maybe one of my kids might have pinched his tail when closing the enclosure door after feeding but I don't think that is it!

Can you post a photo please>

Most likely, the tail tip got caught in a cage and pinched, or skin got stuck around it, cutting off circulation, which is why it fell off. it just eventually died.

If its not too bad, you can put Neosporin on the end, where there should be a slight open wound, and it should heal on its own.

Thanks for all your help!!:) I was getting worried because I didn't know what to do or how serious it was. Here's a pic to see what it looks like. There's some grey stuff around it now, and think it might be infected

If you are even the slightest bit concerned, get to the vet ASAP. i had a female jax with a similar injury. all seemed to heal up good. months later, her tail had several black spots on it & she died several days later. i believe the term to be necrosis. don't wait. my son, nor i have forgiven myself yet.
