Jackson Cham licking?

Hi, I wonder why I never see my Jackson Chameleon licking branches like other chameleons and lizards. Isn't this how lizards pick up on smells? It seems somewhat unique to the species. I know my Jackson can smell well by observing behavior when fresh air is suddenly near. Can anyone spread some insight on this? He is very smart and his intelligence reminds me of a bird.

It's the same for my panther. He does it very often. As for my veiled, never seen her do it. It may have to do with species, but i'm not sure about why they do it.
