It's been so long!

Life has been so crazy lately it's been since January that I visited here! I just have a few things to share on here for now:

1. I lost my Senegal Cham in early June. It was by far one of the hardest losses I have ever dealt with. He came down with a case of mouth rot around February and gave him all of the antibiotics and care my vet recommended. He seemingly got better but eventually would only eat by opening his mouth and allowing me to stick the cricket in there then in time I'd have to force feed him.
2. On the brighter side of life, I attended Repticon's FIRExpo today. I have to say I was incredibly disappointed in the show this year. There were hardly any chameleons to be found. FL Chams wasn't there, nor was Chamalot Chameleons. Typically, they have to best chameleon displays but today's show was just full of snakes and spiders.
3. I did manage to find a new friend to take home and care for! A less than week old Jackson's Chameleon and I'm proud to say he/she/it's already eating and drinking!

People were actually there selling chameleons that were less than 1 week old?! That's ridiculous....Good luck with your new pick up, I hope it works out well for you :)

Yeah, I've made worse decisions in my lifetime... At least this one is adorable. He's seemingly doing okay so far.

Oh Katrina, I wasn't judging your decision to purchase...we've all had the heart strings tugged on by these little guys from time to time, I was more speaking as to the ethics of the breeder, I have never heard of someone selling chameleons at less than a week old....usually I hear about 5 or 6 week olds, which I think is still a bit too young, 1 week is crazy!

Congratulations on your new baby. I went to the Repticon show in Ft Meyers back in June and had the same experience. One guy there was selling 2 week old Veilds to small children- clueless parents purchasing, and another guy was selling wc Veilds at ridiculous prices. I was very disappointed- is this standard for Repticon shows, or are there some good ones?

I was also disappointed in last year's FIRExpo but this one was definitely a little more of a let down. The previous regular Repticon shows I've been to have featured a lot more Cham breeders... Not to mention the VIP bag you get with your online two day ticket purchase. That's gone down hill, too.

Congrats on your cute little guy!

We really wanted to vend at this years's FIRE but we had other obligations that came up so where unable to go.

I totally agree Katrina, I rescued one of the graceful's from the horrible conditions she was in and found out the second day the vendors around were angry at their treatment of the cham's.
I am so hooked on cham's now. I went looking for a cham and luckily I had all facts straight. Still trying to decide on a mister vs a fogger. Any thoughts?

I think I know exactly where you got your graceful from. A lot of the vendors there seemed to have no clue about their chameleons. There was a vendor that was predominantly snakes but put out five or so panthers that clearly were agitated on display for everyone. One kept falling off the desk lamp he was put on into a turtle bin only to be put right back on the lamp. I felt terrible.

I just spray down my cage 2 or 3 times a day until everything is wet and keep the humidity high with real plants and that works fine. I often see things about URIs with foggers... So if I was looking into an actual system, I'd go for a mister.

I was there too - that show is always terrible, but I was hoping to at least pick up some supplies and save on shipping. The show is just tiny - and I saw those 2 week old veileds too! I actually stood there and talked to this girl about their care and how she shouldn't buy one that young. Hopefully she listened!
