So I have a 9 month old BlueBar Ambilobe Panther (he's friggin amazing).
He's good to go now, but for a while, he was really dealing with some Gular Edema. You know, how their chest get a bulbous little lump that's mushy to the touch? Some call it "man boobs," I like to call it, "Chamele-man boobs."
Anyway, I tried like EVERYTHING to get rid of it, even took him off supplements completely. Well, it started going away! And I also noticed it would only flare up the most when he would eat.
I swore I was doing everything right. The (plain) calcium daily, d3 and multi-vits every other week... His poop was outstanding, he was active, eating healthy. Just that darn Edema would NOT go away!
Well, I decided to take yet another close look at his supplements. The "calcium-only" Calcium that I bought at LLL Reptile was NOT only Calcium. It might as well have been a multi-vit!!!
I had been literally giving him multi-vits + calicum on a DAILY basis! No wonder he got Gular Edema. I just wanted to post this because I had seen several cases, where people have no idea what is causing it... well I also took a look at the gutload I was giving to his feeders... it TOO is chalked full of "nutritional supplements" - so not only was he getting his multi-vits & calicum daily, he was getting a double-dose of nutritional supplementation!
I feel bad for not paying more attention, but now I know and he's happier than ever. His colors are mind-blowing and the lil guy teaches me on a daily basis.
Anyway, thanks to all the peeps on here who have already dealth with GE and for their tips and insights. Definitely nutritional/supplement related.
Adjust what you give your feeders, adjust to the correct calcium/vits/minerals/d3 and be SURE you're only giving PLAIN Calcium.
Because man, I was SURE I was too. But I wasn't.
Anyway, thanks for reading lol
