issue with cage need help

i have a zoomed cage and the basking light was put on top for obvious reasons and i came home today and the part of the cage besides the screen melted what can i do to prevent this again?

I put a metal rack type thing going across the top of my cage to prevent that. Maybe your bulbs wattage is to high also. What bulb are you using?

use a shorter bulb that will not touch the screen.
