Is this normal for my Cham?

Okay so last night he stared opening his mouth and looking up at the light and then moving his body like he was doing the worm. He only did it a few seconds.

Then today he did it again but only moved his head and held his mouth open for about 3 minutes. He looked like he was smiling and it was cute, I just want to know if this is normal.

Oh and another thing. When he closes his eye and sucks it in then pops it back out it that his way of cleaning it? He only does this every once in awhile and he doesn't act like anything is wrong.

This is my first Cham, so everything he does worries me! :)

Im attachingg a pic of him holding his mouth open, so y'all can see what I am saying. Any input will be greatly appreciated!

The eye thing is normal maintenance for the cham, they'll rub it on branches or pop it in and out, it's quite normal.

However, usually when the chams gape it means that they are overheating, might want to give ur cham some distance from the basking lamp or the lower the heat a lil, for that age you shouldn't be running over a 50 watt, i have a 45 watt and it's perfect for my guy and he's about 6 months

Oh okay. So him opening his mouth can do with overheating? I didn't know that. Thank You!

He wouldn't do that to help get his food down would it?

prolonged mouth gape is a usual sign of overheating, they usually do it to cool down, not to be mistaken with food,

worse comes to worse it could also be an upper repsiratory infection, check your humidity, basking and resting temp in the cage and make sure all is well, keep monitoring him and see if anything changes, keep him misted as well

I usually check on him every few seconds because I love watching him.

Thank you for the advice.

Could I ask you what type of thermo/hygrometer do you use?

I use the zoomed, which is a piece of sh$#

i'd reccomend a digital thermometer so u can measure basking spots and all around cage temp,

and most inexpensive hyrdrometers will be fine.
