The local pet store keeps them in here, and they recommend I do the same at home (layering the bottom with ECO earth, pete moss, wood chips and pebbles). Im still doing more research before I get one, so I figured I would try and ask again, what you guys think.

omg! i didnt even see anything in there! I cant believe the store told you to keep it in there! Definatly get a screen cage! He needs a reptisun 5.0 for sure, i could go on. Like Thompson said fill out the ask for help and im sure everyone will help you out. Oh ya Welcome to the Forums! One of the best places i think you could find information on chameleons!

Thats not mine, thats one of the tanks at the pet store, and the lady keeps telling me thats how I need to make mine look. I have a tank similar to the one in the picture, only its taller and longer, and yes I bought a UV and heating bulb, I pretty much got all the accessories, only thing I need now is the chameleon, the tank I have no will be only in use until he/she gets bigger.

Id still suggest a 16x16x30 All screen as soon as possible. No substrate at all, You want lots of climbimg areas/space and a good basking perch. Make sure you get the Reptisun 5.0. Also remove the water bowl, they dont use them and they are a breeding ground for bacteria, Get a dripper and mist alot (3-4 times a day) If you cant get an automatic mister.

Fill out the ask for help? Where do I find that...Yes I looked before I asked lol.. :D.

I created an account on here, because i'm confused about certain things. Everything I read on here, the lady at the pet store rejects. She wont sell me one unless I buy all the proper things. Im so confused about the mesh vs glass tanks. she said she recommends mesh for places with high humidity. She has maybe 5-6 adults and claims the oldest one is 4 years old, and has kept all of them in glass tanks like the picture shown above.

Im confused??

Don't buy a chameleon from her. Buy a chameleon from one of our site sponsors. You can buy all the correct things you need from our site sponsors.

oh wow, that does help. I guess I should try and mimic as much as yours as I can. Does anyone here use glass tanks with mesh on the top? I guess I don't mind buying a whole mesh tank set up, I just don't understand how the ones at the pet store are doing well in the same exact tank I have at home.

Pet stores usually dont do well, remember they are temperary tanks untill someone takes the poor animal home, even then who knows if it will have proper care. Like Thompson said, dont buy a cham from her, use a site sponser, they are alot more trustworthy

Thanks for being so helpful!! I will definitely read everything throughly, I will post pics as soon as I get everything set up.

E46M3: I know exactly the pet store you're talking about, the little mom and pop shop. Lol. They really seem to care about the animals there, but my opinion is that they are trying to keep costs down. Using a tank means the temp stays up more easily and they don't need misters to maintain humidity. I'm pretty sure they have just a few lights they rotate among all the reptiles. They house young chameleons together, so be aware that they should not be housed together for long.
