Hi, yes I'm local. I'm just getting started with a 6 month old panther myself so I can't be much help with advice yet, but if I end up with a surplus of roaches and supers, now I know who to ping! My reccomendation to you would be to read up, start buying your supplies, contact brereders online, and go to the reptile show in Sacramento September 18th and 19th to buy your panther where you can see him in person. That pet store is very friendly, and I would buy bugs and plants and some supplies there, but not chameleons unless they told me who their supplier was so I could contact them. The woman told me herself that they had just started keeping chameleons several months ago, so I don't think her expertise could possibly match the expertise here on the forum. The man didn't know what type of panther their 6 month old chameleon was, but he did know the price. I bet you won't have that problem with a reputable breeder at the reptile show. The screen enclosure for a juvenile my huband picked up at the San Jose reptile show was only $60. We will start building a bigger enclosure in a few months when we figure out all the details.
For humidity concerns, I keep my panther outside several times a week, and take him in when it gets chilly or dark. I have a drip over his plant, and the plant is in a simple terracotta pot. I believe that since the water can evaporate from the outside of the pot it helps prevent the pothos plant from drowning and keeps the humidity up. No mister yet, but I will get one eventually.
Whew! Sorry to write a book, I hope that helps. PM me if I can be of any help.
