Lastly I have been going fishing alot. And even though no one in my family likes to eat fish. We have been keeping the and filleting them to donate to family members. All of this just because the fish part attrach flies like you wouldn't believe. Then I take a butterfly net. And catch them by the hundreds. But the fish only last a day or they will stink really bad. My chams have been loving the flies, but I can't fish everyday. So is there a easy way to just breed the flies. I see all kings of methods of leaving food out to gather eggs, but what about the colder months.

Well yes it is easy to breed the flies, but you will have to deal with that extreme bad odor (the maggots give it off to avoid being eaten). Basically you would need to culture them, take a scoop of maggots into a container let them pupate into flies then feed them off. House flies will eat almost anything you offer.

(Warning this will smell far worst than a dirty cricket colony)

Just buy housefly or blue bottle fly pupae/spikes from mantisplace.com . I get about 500 every cpl of months for my collection. That lasts me about two weeks since I dont feed them at every feeding. You can cool them down after they pupate into flies by keeping them in the fridge. They will last for over a month if you rotate them them in and out of the cold. They will die if dont rotate them out and let them eat and drink every few days. Much easier and cleaner than messing with that stinky stuff yourself. I bought heir rearing kit that comes with the container for keeping them in and the cups and food for them to eat. Really basic and easy to deal with, & as adults they dont smell very much.

Thanks. I will probaly just order some then. I live in a really rural area on a farm and I talk to my neighbors. So I know there's no fertilizers or pesticides used of a mile radius of my house, probaly further than that. So I will just try to keep capturing them outside until it gets cold out.

Wild flys eat feces and garbage, you may want to reconsider feeding wild flys.

I've had luck breeding house flys with potatos and a tub with a lid. Typically flys have already laid eggs on potatos when you buy them. I just put the potato in the tub and let it rot. In about 7-10 days I have maggots. I relocate the and let them pupae.

It smells but I do it outside where people wont smell it lol. You can breed BB flys but they like rotten meat, the smell will knock you out! Tried it with beef hearts and I will never do it again lol
