Is the hook dangerous to my chameleon?

I was wondering if the hook is dangerous to my chameleon? I fed him a hook worm & the next day it looked like a little blood coming from his stool. I wasn't sure if it was the hook passing thru his body. I started taking the hook off of the hook worm before I feed it to my chameleon. Any thoughts?

Are you sure you don't mean a hornworm? Does it look something like this?

**Note- I did not take this picture.**

Howdy Theresa,

I'll bet that you meant Hornworm (hookworm is a parasite ) and the little horn on their rear . The horn is not dangerous. If there was blood along with your chameleon's poop then that is another issue altogether. I don't suppose you have a photo of the blood?

It is a horn worm. I don't have a picture of the blood in the stool, but it was only a couple of drops on the branches and it hasn't happened again. this sounds grose, but after my chameleon poops, he walks around dragging his pooper along the branches. Is this like he's wiping himself?

Wiping on the branches is normal but blood in the stool is not. Have you had a fecal lately to check for parasites?

No I haven't. I noticed it only 1 day. We got him from a pet store & he was very skinny. Great color, great appatite, and very friendly. we've been trying to fatten him up. He poops every morning like clock work once I turn on the lights. i will have to catch some & have it checked just incase.

That would be a good idea to get a fecal test for parasites, especially as he is skinny but has a good appetite. If he does have parasites they are easily treated.

Howdy Theresa,

Might as well get the details down on paper :):

Fill this out with as much detail as you can put down. We rarely complain that there is too much info posted . Lots of well-focused photos of your chameleon and his living space are usually very helpful. Be sure to list the exact make/model/type of UVB light and supplements that you are using.

Was it a hornworm you bought or one you caught? because if ti was a wild caught one they are pretty toxic to chameleons due to what they eat in the wild.
