Is my Jackson's too cold? Darker colors lately

I have noticed that Curtis Granderson is much darker these days, and he is always trying to get as close to his basking light as possible. I had it on an angle using a clamp, but I just put it directly onto the top of my cage.

It is a 38w house bulb and I have a 2x2x4 cage. Should I get a heater or do you think setting it directly on top of the cage will help? He seems to be a bit more green now and when I first put the light down he closed his eyes like he was getting misted, so I assume he liked the heat? Is it going to be too hot directly on the cage? Thanks in advance

Should be fine with the light directly on the metal screening. You should have some horizontal perches or branches about 6-8" below the top of the cage for him to sit on and soak up the heat. Might be a good idea to monitor the temps at the spot he will be sitting.

Remember dude we are on the Oregon coast and winter is coming I know he's in the garage so try maybe at 11pm to take a temp reading so u can get a basic night time temp then do the same at 11am winter around here isn't gonna get above 60 much once winter gets here so u may at a later time need to get a heater.
