Is my chameleon "ok" to handle???

HI, i am new to this website and had just purchased a chameleon 2 days ago ive left him alone (besides refilling his dripper and feeding) and i was wondering if hes ok to handle???:confused::confused:

This will cause a big debate !!! I handle both of mine daily. One climbs on me when I try to clean his cage and loves coming out. Trust your gut. Take your time decide what you want to do. Watch for stress and observe closely. Its a huge back and forth. Some people leave them alone. Some handle daily. Research and choose what you want. Don't let anyone tell you what to do. If its captive bred and handled young they adapt. No animal is born to be a certain way, nothing is. Will grow to his environment. I've handled all of mine the first day I brought them home. Just don't push your boundries. Get to your cham :)

If he's a nice healthy green or natural calm colors like he was inside the cage he's good :) You'll get to know him and figure him out !!! Just keep hands clean to handle him and never wake him up lol they hate that.

I am handling my panthers on almost daily basis. To me the more you handle the less afraid of human they are and also the earlier the better.
If you buy baby I would get along with him as early.

That's just me. :)

Sometimes they will display bright colors when they are stressed or scared. Just because they are not dark in color does not mean they are happy.

My little guy loves to come out. When I first got him I would take him out to feed and now any time I open the door to his cage he runs over goes up my arm and sits on my head (he also loves to climb certains) lol. My thoughts on this is let them do what they want, I would never force him to come out and pretty much let him go where he wants when he's out as long as it's safe. Hope you got a frendly one lol

After giving him a little more time to settle in most chameleons like to come out of the cage. Try hand feeding first and buy a small tree or large plant to let him play in outside of his cage when you are there to closely supervise.

generally its recommended if you are going to handle your chameleon to let it settle into its new enviroment first. give him a week or two to really settle in and then start gaining his trust :)

the best way to do that is to start with handfeeding so he relates you to food and therefore to a good experience! then slowly start handling more.

this blog has great tips for earning your chams trust, handling it, and taming it :) https://www.chameleonforums.com/blogs/psychobunny/746-taming-chameleon.html

Yea I think you are ok to handle him as long as they aren't completely. Terrified and stressed always, but definately take your time. Its usually recommended to let them settle in first for a couple of weeks.
