hey guys, Ive owned chameleons before but none like this one so far. Just to preface, he's a 5 month old panther and I haven't even had him a week so I know he can be a little out of sorts at first. I wake up at 630am, thats when his lights go on. Shortly after he's making his way up to the heat. At about 3:00- 3:15pm he's in his tree ready to sleep for the night. Is this behavior something to be worried about or is he just sleepy? Like I said Ive owned chams before but don't ever remember another one going to sleep so early.

Is he asleep- i.e. eyes closed or just tucked in but looking around and alert? My panther likes to get into his favorite sleeping spot a few hours before bedtime but he is definitely awake.

I have noticed this behavior recently with Clouseau but even though he is in one of his sleeping spots, he is not asleep and he will sometimes move out of there as well. I would keep an eye on him as well as the weather. If it happens on a cooler overcast day then it may be nothing at all. Some of these guys just seem to respond to the outdoor environs despite having their own light and heat.

We call our Jackson an old man, because is the the first one awake and the first one to sleep. He does go to bed an hour or so before lights out, but especially on an overcast day he will tuck in early.

Its kind of funny that you are getting responses from brothers. Our Luke and ridgebax1's Clouseau are from the same clutch. Just as Clouseau starts heading for his favorite sleeping spot, so does Luke. He heads down there about an hour prior to dusk, and like others have said when its yucky outside he'll head down there earlier. I go check in on him and he'll just be all hunkered down looking at me w/ his resting colors kicking. By sundown he's got his eyes closed. Seems pretty normal to me what you are experiencing. Do you notice his eye's being open or closed when he goes down there prior to dusk? Is you enclosure near a window?

Lol the old man. Yea he's actually almost directly in front of a window. Come to think of it, I'm in New York, haven't seen much sun at all here in awhile.

Being on the east coast US, I have noticed a big difference in the general
behaviour of my chams durring the winter months.
they eat less, more lazy, and get into their favorite sleeping spot early.
But they dont close their eyes until the lights go out at 6:30pm.

On rainy days, it gets pretty dark by 4pm, and all my guys can see the windows.
