Is it just me?

Is it just me or is our most viewed thread the health clinic? Idk about others but if it is that kinda bad. Any views on the subject?

I just think as cham keepers we are overly protective, and if we think something is wrong we immediately get help about it . I think its a good thing

It is probably most viewed cause people want to try and help. I also am interested in learning every possible health item that can go wrong with these animals and what to do to prevent it or cure it.

It could be that most people bother to find this forum when their first cham ends up with health problems...especially considering how many first time keepers get bad info from pet shops. So, they post their worries and immediate "help" questions on the health forum rather than the General one.

Impulse buys is correct. A friend of my daughter's bought a Jackson's. He has alot of other reptiles but never a chameleon. He started off with the water bowl and I tried to tell him everything to do. I have asked him repeatedly on FB to bring it over so I can see it and he has never responded. I got a feeling it is dead!

I agree with Carol. It's thanks to the health clinic that I know what to look out for. It makes me more able to look after our cham.

another unpopular scathing xantho opinion, like anyone cares lol !

dont get me wrong, i think its probably the most important and necessary and educational part of the forum, which i think is sort of sad.

imo, youll notice if you go through the history that the same probs keep popping up again and again, sometimes even from the same people.

you'll also notice that many of these people have similar help forms.
imo, 3 scenarios that most of these help forms have in common.

1. imbalanced/limited diet often including unhealthy feeders or proportions, and a general lack of research on diet issues. imo, the vast majority of help forms display an extremely, imbalanced, diet lacking diversity. many of these people feed mostly cricks or often include extremely adverse feeders such as waxworms.
imo, to me its clear that the majority of these people havnt even bothered to visit sandrachameleons blog or even tried to understand the concept of diversity in diet.

2. imbalanced/excessive supplementation. imo, there seems to be a mentality that the more vites you give your cham, the healthier it will be. there also seems to be a mentality that whenever your cham is ill, that the best way to fix it is by finding some other supp/vitamin that will fix it.
completely disregarding the fact that it was likely too much man made stuff that caused the problem initially, jmo.

imo, a lot of these people dont want to accept that there husbandry is at issue, its much easier just to label it as something wrong with the cham and try to find something in a bottle to fix it, jmo.

3. imo, heres a concept, if someone is going to buy a rare and exotic, threatened/endangered somewhat complex, little understood reptile,
whose origins and natural habitat are 1/2 way around the world, it might pay to actually put in a little effort besides reading a few posts.
imo the majority of these help forms indicate that their owners have not even bothered to research/understand the basics of balanced supplementation, or just dont take it seriously until their cham is on the floor.

4. conclusion; imo, sadly enough, the majority of the problems in the hc clinic are both predictable and preventable. imo the overwhelming majority of the problems in the hc are metabolic issues caused by poor diet/imbalanced/excess supplementation.

5. as far as i know, there is no supplement that cures poor husbandry

6. geezus, no wonder my mailbox is empty  lol. jmo

^^^^ You said imo 10 times lol, I think you are absolutely right, people think they look cool and they just buy them, I researched for months before I bought my boy.

I agree to a point, but at least they are here and trying to get accurate information. I haven't been a member long, but I haven't seen anyone who keeps coming back with the same issues.

But then I'm a senior member with no chameleon, so what do I know!

The experience with that damned Ambilobefemalecham has really opened my eyes though.

It takes true skill to be a senior member without a cham :D
