Introduction and a few Qs

Hi there! I'm a reptile keeper interested in chams and this site was recommended to me :)

I currently keep crested geckos (two breeding pairs) and am raising up a coastal carpet python who is approx. 1 1/2 years old. I have also kept a number of other species since I was a kid.

I've finally talked about reptiles enough to get my girlfriend interested in them (always a goal, right guys?) and she has it in her head that she'd really like a planted terrarium with a display reptile in it. Of course, one of the things we stumbled on was the beauty and colors of panther chameleons.

She doesn't have much reptile experience outside of my pets, but I told her I'd help her figure out if her idea was feasible, and if a panther chameleon would be a good fit.

I know that they aren't the easiest species to care for, but whenever I advise parents about buying their kids a pet, I always tell them that it is more important that the kid be as interested as possible in a particular species than for the species to be the easiest to take care of. Neglect is the number one killer of reptiles.

So here I am, hoping that the community here will help me find some resources on keeping panther chameleons, and doing so in a planted cage. I've read some online care sheets (some I'm a little skeptical of, they almost seem like they were written by someone with no reptile experience whatsoever and are regurgitating wikipedia) and the general chameleon care in these forums.

Please point me in the right direction of where I need to go from here!

Thanks a ton, and glad to meet you all.

Hello, and welcome to the forum. I personally do not keep panthers -- quite stunning though. However I have picked up on there is a definite preference for screen cages for that species. But yes, there is pleanty of information to be had here and some expert keepers to boot. I am sure they will get you going in the right direction.
