Injury on his nose

Hi,

Neelix has a graze on his nose, there's dried blood on it. I'm gonna swab it later, & see if it's just dried bug splatter. The only other thing I think of, is that the locust I free-ranged yesterday bit him (he didn't eat it, I took it out before bed). What should I do if it is an injury? I know people use an oinment, but what's it called? Thanks.

if it is his blood and not a bugs, you can put neosporin/ polysporin on it. (its the same thing, just ones not name brand)

Ok, thanks. Fingers crossed it's just bug juice! I'm putting him in a new cage later, so I'll see if he'll let me get close enough to check it out.

He wouldn't let me wipe it. so I took some pics instead. What do you think? I can go get some ointment tomorrow

From here it looks like he's been rubbing his nose on something........I think you should make him let you wipe it to get a better idea of what it is. I think with mouth rot it would likely look more swollen, but it's new so I can't be sure.

ok thanks. Here's something I didn't consider- tonight I moved him into a larger cage with properly secured bendy branches. Recently the banches in his old cage had been slipping under his weight and falling about 10cm, so maybe that's how he got hurt? I'll try to be tough with him tomorrow and wipe his nose properly.

Polysporin, Neosporin or any antibiotic ointment without the pain reliever.

Whether dried bug juice or blood, slather a bit on with a q-tip real quick and let it set for a bit before you wipe it off. Then you can take a real close look at what you are wiping off to see what it is. Both of these moves should be done quickly without causing much stress.

If you feel the need, you can clean it really good with dilution of Providone and re-goo with the ointment once or twice a day until healed,

This is only for superficial wounds. :) Anything else should be taken to a specialist.

Hope this helps.

I wiped his little nose, there's just the tiniest mark there now. The pet shop didn't have antibiotic stuff in stock. They only had a bottle of this iodine solution that they were using on their beardies. I go to a different shop tomorrow

You should be able to find it at a store. Its a simple first aid type ointment that is used for cuts and scrapes on people.

Any grocery store has the ointment, even mini-marts or dollar stores. If you mean the providone/iodine stuff, yeah, you gotta get it in the pharmacy section or that kind of store.

If just a little boo-boo, the ointment should be fine to keep the ickies out while it heals up.

all evidence of a cut has disappeared now, guess it was bug-juice! Those super worms are getting juicy... Thanks for the tips, think I will buy some of that stuff just so there's some available in case he does go & hurts himself
