Injured crest male veiled need vet

My male took a tumble yesterday and injured his crest. Looks pretty bad. It’s stiff and he tries to bite me when I try to touch it. He has never tried to bite me before.

My question isn’t should he go to the vet but if anyone knows of a good one in the New Orleans, Louisiana area?

I’m assuming all the vets will be closed today since it is Sunday, should/can I put some neosporin on it till I can get him to the vet on Monday?

Ouch poor baby I am gonna tag someone who is good with finding exotic vets.

@jannb

That's definitely a nasty injury. I don't blame him for trying to bite you. I originally thought it was just already dead what was coming off etc but looking under it is some fresh open skin and tissue. Make sure he stays hydrated. I wouldn't worry about food much right not. He has such a beautiful veil, but having a massively tall thing on your head probably isn't good when falling.

He got the loose bit caught on a branch a second ago and it pulled off. I put some neosporin on the ridge, he did not like that but didn’t fight too much.

I just offered him some big Dubai’s and he readily climb on my arm to get to them.

What are their casques made out of? I tried to bend the little piece that came off, it’s crazy strong. He must have hit something hard to tear that off.

I think the actual thing that forms the crest is bone and then it's just fat stores. So it looks he may have injured his scales on the ridge but I am not sure if it's not a bone issue. Either way, yes neosporin (I actually would go for neosporin because I think it actually has pain relief as well and a mild numbing agent I think is fine in this moment) and it's massively important to fight off any infection it can to help with possible bone infection.
