Inflated Eye?

Hey Everyone.

Its been a while since Ive had to post about anything with my 2 NosyBe's. Things are going pretty smooth, but yesterday I saw something that freaked me out a little bit.

My male Clarence is 15months old, recently shed (Full body shed) looks like he is done with the process, but yesterday when I went home on my lunch break I saw him doing something weird. He was rubbing his eye on a branch, then he did something that freaked me out. He puffed out his eye, like popped it out (kinda looked like those weird goldfish). I mean his eye was massive and it scared the crap out of me, so I ran to grab my phone to snag a picture and call my job to say I had an emergency and I needed to go to the vet. But by the time I got my phone and back to the cage his eye was back to normal. Last night he was sleeping and everything looked normal. This AM everything is normal.

So my question is, can they make there eyes pop out? It almost looked inflated with air. Was he doing this to help with some possible stuck shed? Has anyone seen this happen with there panthers? Any ideas would be appreciated. I just dont want to miss any warning signs of anything. And it only happened with one eye (atleast what I saw at the time)

Yes, mine did it during her misting and it's normal and I read a way to clean it in out, she did it several times during a night misting and I flipped out, but thanks to this forum I now know it was no fault of mine. She does it around sheds mostly now.

I think they do that to clean their eyes. He may have had some debris or shed stuck in there. If he keeps doing it, try showering him or giving him some saline drops to flush it out.

The thing that freaked me out was how huge that eye got. I had an eye issue with him when he was a young lil cham, but that has been fixed. Ive seen what they do when they are getting misted to clean out there turrets, but for some odd reason, this was different. I havent seen him do that before. But feel better now that people are saying its ok. I will keep an eye on him this weekend to see if he does it again.

Then trust your gut. I read other threads about sinus infections and it causing eye issues and eye drops but the eye was staying inflated and that was a Jackson if I recall.

What issues did your Cham have when it was young if you don't mind me asking?

oh I dont mind. When he was a young buck, he had a lump under his eye turret. it got bigger and bigger, until I had to take him to a vet to have it removed. It turned out to be a mass of white blood cells (some type of infection) so the vet took out the gunk and gave me Eye drops to give him twice a day for 10 days. After that all was well.

I have a long thread about it. If you look up my name I think you can see it. Ill see if I can link it in here.

Here is the thread and pics of the poor lil fella when he had the issue.

He is so cute ! I'm going to repticon in Jan and I'm looking for a nosy b, I really love them. I dote over Frita so much with 2 chams I'd get nothing done though lol I hope this eye thing turns out to be nothing. Best wishes and I hope you'll post back about his progress.

Clarence is super handsome. No issue what ever w/ the "goofy eyeness". They'll do that to clean the orb when you mist them, and sometimes to help w/ a shed. Its freaky but not out of the ordinary.
