Infertile Eggs*

Hello,

I have a female veiled chameleon who is almost a year old. I woke up this morning and found two eggs at the bottom of her enclosure. I have been told that they usually lay clutches of eggs. I am worried because I don't want her to become egg bound. I do have a tub for her to lay her eggs in but she never went to the bottom of her enclosure, she was perfectly fine. She was eating fine and she is always hydrated. Can someone please advice me on this asap??

How big is your laying bin. Sometimes they will only lay in large bins. I would go get some more play sand, and a garbage bin (the type you use for outside), fill it up and place here in there to lay with some branches and a light facing it.

If she isn't put in a large laying bin right away (preferably within a few hours of seeing the eggs,) she may keep laying them or she may become egg bound. It just depends on the female. That kind will work, or any kind that is large (I prefer one that is about 3 feet tall with 12-15 inches of damp sand/soil or a mixture in it.) I like to put a small branch/vine in it, a small lamp over it, and a fake plant or a live plant clipping and stick it into the sand. Some females are more comfortable laying next to a plant.

Great, thanks everyone I actually just bought her an extra large enclosure yesterday in which I placed the bin in with the organic moist soil and a few plants, however she isn't going anywhere near it.

I have had females drop a few eggs before attempting to dig. Usually the dropped eggs where bad.

They later went on to dig and lay normally
