indie pet shop

So I purchased crix today at a small mom/pop petstore. I noticed a nice panther, she said he was nice so I took him out, noticing no basking lamp, asked if I could take him outside, he LOVED it.
Next noticed...NO water of any kind, drip or mist, I commented on that and the compact bulbs instead of the linear she had for sale next to the cages. I proceeded to mist all 3 cages for AN HOUR AND A HALF, all three drank the entire time!
I told her changes had to be made or I would take them all. The poor jackson was so dehydrated he could hardly open his mouth to drink.
So many things wrong, it would take even longer on this thread.
So I am going back tomoro and Sat, and Sunday if I have to.
If I take them can someone get me up to speed on the Jackson?
the 6mo panther has no colors...at all. After misting him a little green and red started to show.
I feel so bad for them, they looked at me like...HELP US PLEASE

By 'take them' do you mean for free or that you will purchase them? If you plan on purchasing them to "save them" I can guarantee you that the pet shop owner is not going to even lift a finger to change even a single thing because she would much rather you feel bad and buy them so she can make a profit! You've just promised her a sale if she continues to treat them poorly, what reason does she have to improve anything? And then as soon as you take them home she's going to be ordering more hoping that you'll come back and see those too, or that someone else will do the exact same thing. Unfortunately the only thing you'd be doing by buying them is supporting negligence and animal cruelty. Sure you'll save these 3 but there will be many more to come because it's only a numbers game to them and if they can make money then they will do it again.

It's terrible to look at where they are and walk away, which is why I don't go into pet stores anymore unless I absolutely have to, but unless you are taking these animals for free or her costs (not just a measly discount that still gives her plenty of profit) then the best thing would actually be to walk away. Of course you can always threaten to report the terrible condition she keeps her animals to authorities and the news - she should be worried about the big chains running her out of business anyway - and then see how she reacts. I would not do take those animals unless she gets nothing out of it. That's the only way you're going to have an impact sadly. It's the terrible truth.

Very true. I tried to save some in the past. Had to buy them, and they later died due to lack of care when they were at the pet shop. I just couldn't turn them around.

I plan on giving her 3 options
Make significant changes, NOW
I will take them, by threat of calling our humane society, and being in a small town, competing with Petco and Petsmart and publicly calling her out will have some impact.
In all honesty, she is ignorant not cruel. She has many "desert/ground" types of herps but only these 3 Chams. And I believe she really didn't know what to do. The 1.5 yo came to her because the owner left for Afghanistan and didn't leave any care insructions, nor did she look any up.
I am always an advocate for animals, children and the elderly. I will do what it takes to fix this!

Good for you! It is usually just a case of ignorance in most situations, but again the money factor plays a role in that. They don't want to open those nice expensive UV bulbs because it eats into their profits. But perhaps if she is willing to learn about them you could do your part to educate her and guide her in the right direction. And if not, then option #2 sounds like a good plan. ;)

As much as I hate to....I can be pretty intimidating when I want to be(in a nice kinda way)!
Im old and have been around the perverbial block, so to speak! Not to mention a horsewoman and a Vet.
I will get my way :)

Kidding, im gonna give her the benefit of the doubt until Sun, but will check on then fri and sat still

I gotta say I live in gods country! Might not have the lush green like No Carolina or other states, but all things considered, it doesn't get much better than this all year round.
But you just had all the awesome poppies, didn't you?
I lived in Lockwood Valley when I was married ( up the pass north of Frazier Park) and we went to Bakersfield for hay and fuel, great prices on both back then!

I LOVE humidity! Which is why I want to retire in NC, but all the flooding, tornados, hurricanes you guys have in that part of the country scares me a little. I will take a silly earthquake anyday!
