In Memory of Paco

Yesterday we lost a member of our family. He had stopped eating and drinking and could no longer stand on his own. His last evening with us was very sad. We took turns holding him and rubbing, conforting him to make sure he knew he was not alone. Mom, Dad and his two brothers were with him all along and always with him to the end. He truly hated being alone. He always had to be next to you. No matter where you were. If you were inside or outside he had to be there with you. If you were in the bathroom, he would try to push it open with his nose. He did not like barriers in between you and him. He loved going for walks, stopping every ten feet to mark his "Terrier-tory". He loved running around the poppy fields and the park and would go as far as he wanted, until I whistled and he would look up and run towards us as fast as he could, then take off again. Chasing cats and birds or anything that moved was another of his pastimes. But lately, age got to him. He could not run and jump and goof off as he used to. He could not hear anymore, so we started to communicate with hand signals. But always had that unconditional love look for us in his eyes. Carrying him through the vet's door for his final visit was the most painful thing I had ever done. Dr. Akal checked him and said he is in lots of pain and there was nothing he could do. But we knew that. Mom, Dad and his two brothers were right beside him holding him and conforting him, asuring that all will be ok. Kissing and rubbing him as the doctor gave the injection, he gave a short last breath and he went in peace. "Paquito" was a brave, fearless, intelligent, gracious handsome boy that will never be forgotten. Paco will always remain in our hearts.

He sounds like a great dog, and you were lucky to have him. Sorry for your loss. RIP little Paco.
