In Depth Light Question

Hello

I'm new to chameleon and just curious about lighting and my terrarium because I also wish to keep plants in it, the chameleon is a Panther...

Terrarium is 48" L x 18" W x 36" H

From what I have read I cannot really utilize a full 48" fixture of linear bulbs because I also need a basking light.

So I was thinking 36" Fixture.

But because its a 36" High terrarium, what would be better a Quad(4x) linear 36" fluro T5 Fixture or a Dual(2x) linear 36" fluro T5 Fixture?

Also would a 12% bulb be more effective due to the terrariums overall 36" height and if so how many?

Right now I'm leaning more towards a fixture that is 36" long with Quad(4x) linear fluro T5 bulbs and just going 1x12%UVB + 1x6%UVB + 1x6500K +1x5800K Grow Light + a Incandescent Basking Light.

Opinions, thoughts, comments, anything appreciated I'm mostly interested in hearing about the Depth of Terrarium vs Light Requirement.

Cheers

48" T5 HO fixture (2 or 4 way). One UVB and one 6500k per side, or double for four way setup. The glass sides, will keep the heat in. You most likely won't need a heat bulb. If you do, grab a clamp lamp with a 25w bulb (mini halogen would be even smaller and better, just costs more). Any higher of bulb, would likely be too hot. 6% should do you, okay.

Thank you heaps for your response! :)

Good answer Jungle Fries.
;)
my thoughts too...
a quad with heavy planting and lots of shade, a double bulb if it is fairly open.

Probably a 36" quad would be what I would do and have it shady off to the sides.

You can definitely use a 36 or 48 inch fixture, but the quad is overkill. (Having said that, I prefer overkill :D:rolleyes:) In a 36" tall enclosure I would only go with the 6% T5 HO and a 6500K plant bulb. Also a separate dome for Basking. Here's what I did...(Did I mention I like overkill???)

I've got two separate basking sites, a quad T5 HO fixture with a 12% Arcadia UVB, two 6500K plant lights and an Arcadia Plant Pro. The enclosure is pretty densely planted.

If you build your own it gives you more options. This is mine and it's a 48" long hood that fits on a 75 gallon aquarium.

From left to right it's a 90w equivalent full spectrum Led, a 4w UVA, 25w UVB, 4w UVA, 25w UVB, 4w UVA, and a 90w So-Lux Daylight replicating lamp (For basking).

The Led will probably get replaced by a 75w basking lamp. I'd preferably like two different basking lamps of different light type and intensity.
