Important Question please

My shoe box with my eggs has moisture on the sides. Is this too wet? should I take off the top for awhile for it to dry out? I don't want my eggs to mold in the first week. HELP

Some moisture is OK-did you prepare the vermiculite so you could hardly squeeze any water out of it?

Yes, I pinched hard and nothing came out, it just stuck to my finger.

When the temps in the room goup and down a little you will see some moisture and condensation. Don't worry new egg mommy-you have a long wait! Remember mine hatched days short of 9 months at room temp!

Do you have them in a box box, or a plastic type box?

They are in a plastic show box with 8 small holes punched in the lid.

I would think you might have trouble with it being to dry with that many holes in the lid ... you are in Fl though, so that might be alright.
The lid on my plastic shoe box has 2 tiny holes made with a finish nail.

Having lived in the Denver area for 25 years I know how dry it is there...the air sucks the moisture out of everything! I will tape up some of the holes though if I think it is drying out. I still see moisture on the inside of the plastic container. Desi #2 is digging so I will have 2 boxes to maintain. I want to do it correctly.

My two cents: A little condensation is fine. Big drips of condensation splashing from lid onto eggies would not be good.

If it gets to wet you have to have 1 or 2 small holes for air exchange you can always block the holes up again once it drys out a little.
