Impacted or needs to lay eggs? Or maybe something else.

So our young female panther has been acting strange lately. We think she is egg bound and are out right now getting what we need for a laying bin for her.

She has been laying on her vine most of the day basking. Being quite lazy compared to most days. She is about 8-10 months old. We don't know the exact age.

She has everything she needs. We followed all the directions on here from lighting, enclosure size, misting and drippers, gut loading crickets and a dusting schedule with D3 and without and a multi vit twice a month.

She has been great since we got her. Nice poop from the poop 101 thread. Eats a about 10 4 week old crickets a day and sometimes we give her silk worms and horn worms but only small ones and only 1 or 2 a week as a treat. She loves those.

About 5 days ago we fed her a horn worm in her cage which grabbed onto the umbrella bush plant she has in her cage. She ate the leaf that the horn worm was on. Would this matter? She doesn't usually eat the plants and won't touch the veggies we offer.

When we handle her she is usually pretty active. We don't handle often because she doesn't really like it. But usually she as soon as we take her from her cage she runs up our arm and onto the tops of our head if we let her. Now she just lays down on your arm or hand and rests her body weight and head down. Which is really strange behavior for her. This behavior started this morning.

Anyway, we just need to know what you guys might think? How do we know if it is impaction or egg bound? I guess if she is egg bound she will try to lay her eggs once the bin is in?

I think it is eggs because she was at the bottom of the cage for the first time this week, but didn't see any digging motions. It is also strange that she would be at the bottom of the cage.

If she is impacted, how do we deal with that?

I have no experience with this at all so take this lightly BUT I would get the bin in there ASAP and see if she will lay. If not, a vet visit might be needed.

Someone else can chime in.

Thanks, we will have a bin in there within the hour and see how it goes.

Since the bin is at the bottom of the cage does it matter what temp it is at?

Has she gone to the bathroom since she ate the leaf? Could you post some pictures of her as well.

Also, if she has eggs you should be able to feel them. Get her out and palpate her lower belly and you should be able to feel jelly beans. She needs a laying bin at all times for now on encase she develops eggs. Don't worry about the temp at the bottom as along as the room temp is fine.

You might have to get xrays to see what is going on inside her?
