I'm worried

I know roaches are a great feeder option, but I'm worried that if a few escape they might infest my house. Is this a crazy fear?

No, for me I had to determine how I could house then with ZERO escaping. My colony is in a glass aquarium with a top, when I take them out to feed they are cup fed. They go into a feeder cup that has Vaseline around the top. I put 4 cups of dubia is feeder cups with vaseline the first time and they spent over night is a tub with a lid. Come morning all were in the proper cups. Also I clip the cups in the cages as I don't want them dumped.

Well, even if some escape, B. dubia roaches need temps of at least 80 F to breed successfully. If your house stays much cooler than that you are probably fine. Especially in Maine where your winters are cold. You might see a slow moving escaped roach once in a while, but I really doubt you'll see any breeding. I live in SE AK and have had many escapes over the years. I've never seen young roaches, just some half starved adults who escaped the colony.

Now if you choose another feeder roach species make sure you know their temp tolerances to avoid problems. This is one reason the B. dubias are so popular as feeders...they are temp sensitive.

How do you breed them? Are they easy to raise and gutload? I would love to not have to give so much money to the pet store for crickets.

Haha. I would wait to see if your Cham likes them before you think of breeding them
