hey everyone I'm new and i have a couple of questions, but first I'll start off by saying I have a male vieled chameleon who, if I did my math right, is almost a year old. I'm not sure because no one knew at the pet store.

He's growing fast and I want to MAKE his new eclosure with screening. I'm planning a 2 ft wide 2 ft long and 3 ft high enclosure. I know I want to put a Dracaena deremensis and a Dracaena fragrans in there for his live plants. I also want to use sphagnum moss so help with the humidity and jungle earth dirt because he likes to dig when he sheds and I don't want to take that away from him. I'm having problems really sorting out what I need, because I hear the plants need the right drainage. I'm getting all confused and really need help on how to set up this enclosure..along with if my ideas on what i want to use are completely wrong. Any suggestions are appreciated...HELP!!

Are you sure you have a male? Many males dont dig, and you really dont need any substrate inthere, because if your cham eats it, they can then get a blockage which would require surgery. most people either use bare floors, paper towels, or I use reptile carpet so the cahm cant eat it.

Now, do you need help with a drainage system, the type of plants to use, or what exactly? ask specific questions on things and people can answer.

Hello and welcome to the forums. I keep veileds and they are a pleasure to work with. I can't see your avatar picture very well, would you post a few pictures of your guy please? Normally males don't dig. Most of us here don't use anything on the bottom of the enclosure because it's easier to keep clean and your cham could eat the dirt and become impacted. As far as the cage goes an adult will need at least a 4 foot high enclosure. I'm attaching my blog for new keepers below. It will tell you what you need to keep your little guy healthy and give you links with pictures and where you can buy each item.

As for the drainage system, I think Ifigured something out that will work out great. I ended up getting lucky and finiding some different instructions online.

And thanks for the link! My cham has what looks to me like definite tarsal spurs on his back legs. What's weird is I've never actually seen him dig, but his light comes on before I wake up usually and when I look in his enclosure there will be like a huge buried area in one of the corners...and within a couple of hours he starts shedding, usually on his feet and legs first.

as for the pics im gonna have to post more tomorrow..his light just went off for the night. I'll post them tomorrow as early as possible, sorry I took so long to reply!
