Ideal Pet

My sister is in need of a loving pet. She's a busy woman with two kids and a husband to look over. She always liked the idea of a chameleon. Would she be able to easily take care of an adult Chameleon?
How would we go about its habitat and environment?
Are they difficult to take care of?

doesn't sound like the right fit going by a few things you said.. in terms of a "loving" pet, no doubt are they wonderful and can make anyone VERY happy however i would not dub them this as MOST prefer little handling and most types are solitary in nature.. also, if she is a busy woman and has two kids (and a husband) to look after a chameleon might not be the best fit as they do indeed require thorough care and upkeep. however, if she is in the mood for a reptile a bearded dragon would be a great choice, most love handling, become very attached to their keepers, are relatively easy to keep, and are great for kids. a chameleon would be a better choice perhaps if her lifestyle tones down a bit and after caring for another reptile or at least a great deal of research and preparation for one. hope that helps

thank you that helps a lot. I just want to help her find a creature she can enjoy. I'll let her know about a bearded dragon. I think she also liked the thought of a pet that she didnt have to pick up very often. If she is still set on the chameleon after I show her beardy then you can count on me visiting more often. I have a tortoise so I have some experience. I can help her with whatever she needs.

Also, most people considering or at least entertaining the thought of having a chameleon of their own tend to overlook one VERY important facet of such a venture which is especially important with the economy the way it is.. for most of the larger chameleons getting started is EXTREMELY expensive compared to most other reptile set ups, one can plan on spending at the very least $200 on the setup.. not even bringing in the cost of the cham itself.

thats awesome, if you guys look over all the care info and decide it would be the right fit, you definitely will not be dissapointed they are AMAZING creatures, outside of extremely exotic pets I personally think they are the most unique friend one can care for. furthermore, it's wonderful you found this site beforehand, there is a PLETHORA of experienced keepers/breeders/enthusiasts on here that are absolutely dedicated to responsible care and are very willing to help out. don't hesitate to ask

Oh well thank you again. I will let her know all of this information. They have thought of multiple pets but she loves the thought of a reptile. I'll do more research on both but maybe she'll end up loving the bearded dragon.

Crested Geckos also make great chameleon alternatives if she's looking for something that takes up less space than a bearded.

just thought that this test might help your sister figure out whether or not she's compatible with having chameleon as her pet.

a bearded dragon is probably the best. very easy and you can hold them often.
