I was wondering...

Stormy my veiled chameleon is always going to the top of the cage and banging under the heat lamp even though basking is at 80-83 degrees. He is 4 months, and eats a lot. So I was wondering if he does this because he eats so much and then he needs more heat to digest it all?

No, he does not need it warmer. If he is hanging on the screen right below you need to be extremely cautious of thermal burns. They just screen climb as babies because it is the highest point in the cage and it makes them feel safer.

Ok. I don’t think he has thermal burns. I have a dimmer on the heat lamp so do you think I should dim it? The basking spot temp will be lower is the only thing, but I don’t want him to get thermal burns.

I also have a male veiled who does similar things. What I do that gets him down is I turn on the mister and gently blow the water in his direction so close the water slightly hits him.

He goes to a certain spot whenever I turn the Mister on. So i do it to let him know that the misters on he goes over to that spot it’s not about harming him or annoying him.

He enjoys when the mister is on so he goes to that side to get wet. I would never do something to harm him. When I do it I am just letting him know that the misters on so he can go to over to the side and enjoy getting nice and wet.

I am not picking on you... I am saying you do not want to use water to get him to move. You do not want him to have a fear of the water and you do not want to add moisture to hot air either as it has separate issues. You said above this:
What I do that gets him down is I turn on the mister and gently blow the water in his direction so close the water slightly hits him.

So your saying there that is what you do to get him down is this with the water....

Depending on the age of the cham... Babies screen climb the top panel. Which is totally fine if the lighting has been raised as it should be a safe distance. They do this to feel safe.

If an older cham is doing it then husbandry should be reviewed to make sure there is not something wrong in the set up that is causing the behavior.

He does not have fear of the water. I turn the Mister on sort of like a treat For him. He just likes to go in a certain spot to enjoy his nice water. In that spot is not up close to the heat bulb.

The basking lamp needs to be lifted up off the top of the cage a few inches if he is hanging on the screen right below it.

This^^. Another thing I do to prevent burns as he gets older is making sure the light isn’t directly beaming onto the basking spot but slightly offset so he still gets the heat without being directly under the most intense radiation. If this is still a problem as he matures you can also drop the wattage. Under normal circumstances with good husbandry he’ll grow out to of it as he gets used to you and his environment.
