I think my boy is dying.

He has not eaten regularly since April. Here's what's up.

  • Your Chameleon - Male Jackson's Chameleon. Unknown age. Full grown
  • Handling - Rarely, only to clean his cage.
  • Feeding - Hasn't eaten since April. He currently will only eat dragon flies and moths. Even horn worms won't entice him to eat.
  • Supplements - Before he stopped eating he got calcium every other day, vitamins and d3 once a month.
  • Watering - Mister goes off every 4 hours for 1 minute. I hand spray him multiple times a day. I see him drink occasionally.
  • Fecal Description - He had stopped pooping except for small bits. All normal. But yesterday he pooped and it stunk so bad. It had never been like that before.
  • History - Came from a reptile shop at juvenile age back in December.

Cage Info:
  • Cage Type -
    Screen, 45x36x16 inches
  • Lighting -
One 5.0 Uvb and a 60 watt heat lamp

  • Temperature - Basking at 80 and bottom of cage is room temperature.
  • Humidity - I hate to admit this, but I can rarely get humidity to spike to 70 let alone stay there. Stays around 40 in between mistings.
  • Plants - 1 pothos, 1 umbrella plant, 1 palm, and 1ficus
  • Placement - bedroom
  • Location- Northern Oklahoma, USA.

He has not eaten in so long. Does anybody know what could be wrong with him? Is he about to die?

Vet visit may be needed. Sounds like your husbandry is good but I am not too familiar with jacksons.

Keeping humidity can be tricky. Try wrapping two or three sides of his cage with plastic to help hold humidity.

If he has not eaten since April then you need to get him to a vet to get checked out and have a fecal sample done.

I agree it sounds like he has a hefty parasite load of some sort. He also needs longer mistings than it sounds like you are provide which may also help with your humidity most of the time. For jackson's I don't go below 4-5 minutes as a regular misting and have one misting a day that is at least 8-10 minutes. Then usually once during the week I do a 15-20 minute misting or shower. You need really good drainage for all chameleons but especially montanes.
