Well my chameleon is almost done his shedding, so his appetite will be coming back, which is good because he hasnt eaten in three days! Last week (for the entire 7days) his diet was purely waxworms. The reason being is because my pet shop had no locusts. I was told by an expeirenced keeper to starve him for a few days so that when i feed him a locust he will eat it instead of eating a waxworm.

Hes a very healthy 3 year old veiled chameleon who is nice and active but three days is kinda a long time for him not to be eating, isnt it?

Also im thinking of moving his diet onto crickets because at my local shop the locusts are 10 for £2.50 (about $3.70) and the shops pretty far away so im going every week, you get much more crickets than locusts in a tub) ive only had him two weeks so these things are worrying me, thanks for looking.

I would recommend not using waxworms as the staple feeder, especially for an entire week. If your store sells out of whatever feeder you prefer using, crickets are a much better option. But to be completely honest, you should really be giving your chameleon a varied diet of at least 5-6 different feeders, including but not limited to, dubia roaches, crickets, mealworms, hornworms, silkworms, locusts, superworms, butterworms etc etc....there are so many options out there to choose from, and your chameleon would definitely benefit from the variation.

Hello, welcome to the forum :) - First thing is don't worry if he doesn't eat this week......... A healthy adult Veiled can go a long time with no food. My current boy was on hunger strike for nearly 2 weeks before he was a year old and it did him no harm at all.
I never feed waxworms at all anymore, they are pretty poor nutritionally (high fat) and they are 'addictive'. Male Veiled are fussy enough eaters as it is
Locusts are a good feeder, so are crickets. The best to recommend are silkworms as they are high calcium and low fat. Also they are wormy, which your guy will probably like.........only problem is they are more expensive and you'll have to find some way to order them online (I use ebay but they are not always available)
Anyway, variety is the key with his foods, and just as important is a good gutload. Here is a great all-round caresheet I always recommend to new owners with Veileds- https://www.chameleonforums.com/blogs/chameleonsinmyhouse/395-veiled-chameleon-care-sheet.html
Some info on different feeders - https://www.chameleonforums.com/blogs/sandrachameleon/74-feeders.html
and more gutloading info. - https://www.chameleonforums.com/blogs/sandrachameleon/75-feeder-nutrition-gutloading.html There are some good commercially available gutloads too. I use Repashy bug burger as part of mine.
