hello guys,i ran out of crickets before the next reptile swap so,i went to the bait shop and got big crickets.he ate some but now i havent seen any poop around.i think he may be impacted.what should i do now?

how long has it been? They can go a few days to a week sometimes. Just make sure he gets plenty of water.

I think he will be okay he has a better chance of choking on the crickets because of their size than get impacted from them

ok i feel a little better now.it has been 3 days since i last cleaned the cage.just in case though,im going to the swap this weekend .is there anything i should buy there?how do you normally remedy compaction?

The only remedy I know of is a warm bath. You can try spraying him with water that comes out warm for 15-20 minutes and see if that stimulates him to poop.

Honestly, I think he'll be fine though. Maybe it's taking him a little longer to digest them but if he's properly hydrated he should be fine.

shower

Incase you jump the gun and give it a shower:

aim the spray into the wall so that it mists off
temperature should be high warm. like not HOT but nice and warm.
put him on a plant and stick it in the shower. u may have to hold the plant as i do. but its a real killer.
set him there for like 10 minutes.

make sure u watch him. idk what exactly happened but one time when i was doing this my dude started breethin mad heavy then fainted, i shit a brick. took him out and gave the plant a bit of a wiggle. luckily he picked himself back up and was just fine. but that was just once and i have since done it with no issues. so just keep a watchful eye. i usually do this during shedding but he usually craps within 5 minutes. sometimes he dont but that dont mean he's impacted simply means he just dont have to at that moment.

I used to get stressed that my chameleons were impacted because I kept such a close eye of when they pooped. If they missed a couple days I would start to worry. Now its not something I ever worry about: they poop less as they get older as well as when temps are colder or humidity lower.

As long as you are sure they haven't eaten anything odd I wouldn't worry for now. Reptiles have pretty hectic stomachs as you can see from their fecal matter. Grey crickets get completely mulched by the acids so although its not healthy to feed them anything too large it would be hard for a cricket to cause an impaction without another contributing factor.

Keep an eye on the situation and if there is no change after a week or so you can try a small drop of cod-liver oil and a good warm soaking.
