I need insight please!

Okay, so yesterday I was approached at my work, while I was working of course, by my old manager from Burger King..

Well she offered me back my job and is in desperate need of help at BK. She lost all of her actual good crew that I worked with before, due to them going off to college, and what not.

The thing is, is that I want to help her out with all my heart, Mandy was one of the best managers that I could have asked for. But I have a job already and it gives me plenty of hours and pays very good. Also with school coming up next week, I am stuck between a rock and a hard place.

My mother set some boundries for me that if my grades slip below a B- than I have to quit Burger King.

I really want to help out, but I feel as if it will interfear with my schooling and my other work.

Tomorrow I am going to be going in to talk with her about all of this, so what are your opinions!

stick with your job, you never know what plans you will have at school

well that just me lol, and i dont want to get a job to help someone, i rather get a job im OK with and still have time for myself and school etc

im all for helping people, but this affects you more, your life and how things will go...

as another teen i think you should look after yourself before others

when you help a person it should be a one time thing, not a "8 hours a day 5 times a week"

i think she will find somone else anyway

I'm a little confused. Are you still working for a BK, just not Mandy's?

If not, if your job is completely not BK, and you really want to help her, maybe you could do so until school starts up? Make sure she knows that you are just doing this temporarily and the day school starts you are out of there (effectively give your notice the day you are hired).

That would give you some extra pocket change and give her a chance to look for good workers to take over when you leave.

If you are still working for BK, I think Mandy has committed a pretty big Faux Pas. One does not poach workers from other franchise outlets.

Again, you could still offer to help her out until the day school starts, but you should also let her know that's not a good policy. You might easily have gone to your new manager with the request and that could have made it up to corporate. Mandy would not do well if that happened.

Regardless, once school starts, you need to have only one job. Your Mom is right to put grades ahead of working and the more you work, the harder that is to achieve.

in all honesty dude, shes the manager and that is up to her and the franchise owner to look and hire new people. you're young and should stick with all that you have right now (good hours and pay), you're also going into school and growing up, a part time at bk with bk pay, isn't going to help you out much. i really feel for you though, and that's such a selfless act to help somebody with. but this is you time now, and you should be selfish as far as taking in all you can now (better job, better pay, education) to give you a better hand in the years to come.

mandy must be a sweet boss, but don't quit your day job to take orders and flip burgers just because the location is temporarily suffering

You're going to need the money later, keep the good job. Seems like BK has always done just fine with a lot of turnover. It's to be expected with fast food chains.

Mandy, was my old manager at BK. I lost my job after my father (step father) passed away last year and she wasn't the manager to fire me, she was on maternity leave at the time.

I am very scetchy about this, because I don't want to lose my current job at the grocery store that I work at. (Hy-Vee) I already started my 401-K and everything that it takes to be on my own when I'm an adult.

Thanks for all your help, I think I am going to just stick with my current job. It will be too much stress and I don't want to risk getting bad grades in school.

Stay with your current job. You committed to them and the manager at BK is realizing her error in letting you go.

I would consider a move if more money and a better position was offered. That's the only reason. You don't want to make a lateral move ever.

If working for a grocery store there is anything like it is here, that's a good job! Do nothing to endanger that (except if there's a conflict with school, school comes first).

I didn't go in to talk to Mandy, I just skipped it and said I can't take the job. I will be sticking with Hy-Vee and my schooling. Mehh. Now I want a day off. Not until Thursday. working 7 days straight and working late afternoons is so tiring. >< Even for a grocery store.

ha yeah, today I just got put on as a Checker all the time when I'm there. Pushing the carts and stocking hurts my knees too much. I hate having really bad knees with jobs like this. My mom plans to bring me to the Dr.'s tomorrow. I hate the Dr.'s. :c LOL

School is always first. Good grades in high school get you good scholarships and a good college education, which will hopefully make you a lot more money in the future. So school first!

Agreed, I work my hardest in school just to make it into the University of Minnesota for Architecture and Design. c: I am hoping to graduate early my senior year.
