so im needing some advice i don't know what to do for my poor Athena. shes 1 and a half months old (what i was told) and she has her "brother" with her in the same mesh cage, at first she was unhappy because she was in a glass cage so i went and bought them a mesh cage and put live plants in there, they were both happy but lately Athena has been turning black and showing really stressful signs and i don't know what im doing wrong. i do have a free roaming 4 month old veiled who i think has been bothering her and that's why shes stressing out because there both female and there's only one male but i don't know, the male Hercules has been fine not showing any stress even when the free roaming veiled found them.. i just don't know what to do i separated them and shes still upset... :( i feel horrible i dont want to loose her im just stressing out so much what should i do?

They are both in the same cage?? That could be your problem...you are only supposed to keep one in cage at a time and I think not let them be in sight of eachother because it can stress them out. The free roaming vieled may also be stressing her. But you need to fill out the "how to ask for help" form so that others more experienced can help you if there is anything off in your husbandry.

well the babies were together and there really small still only a month or so old so it shouldnt be a problem until they turn 4 months right? i mean when i got them they were together and they get along fine

Hi! I'm sorry you're having problems with your little one. I suspect you might be onto something with the adult female veiled. I think you should test this theory by giving then a day apart. If she doesn't turn black when the big girl is not around, you can run with that as the cause and take the needed steps to make sure your little girl doesn't see the big girl at all.

You will ultimately need to separate them, as I'm sure you know.

thanks :) it was her i took her out of the room and put her in another room and she was fine, so i have another cage ill set up for her where she will never see her, the male seems fine and hasn't shown any stress towards the female so... right now i think those two are fine. eventually they will all have there own cages and wont see each other unless they mate.

I would say you want them in separate cages by the time they are 4 months old. Earlier would be better. Is the little girl not really related to the little boy?

I'm glad you've found the root of the problem!

It really depends on the cham, if she is showing stress symptoms separate them ASAP, as soon as they decide they want to be alone, they will throw a fit till they get their way.

Separating them should solve your problem, If it doesnt, we are here to help :)

thanks :) im setting up a cage for her as we speak :) ya she throws a fit like she runs and hides and will blend in to anything like if shes on a log she will go brown or on dirt go brown or on the top of the cage go black, then she will curl into a ball like shes scared to death and ill have to pick her up and hold her for a minute because shes so freaked out then i put her into another tree far away from the chameleons and shes been fine. girls always throwing fits ha

Haha yeah. Its kinda funny when chams throw fits cuz they literally throw like a terrible twos tantrum everytime lol:rolleyes::rolleyes:

they really do! haha she just ran from the top of her cage to the floor and curled up next to her vine and turned brown. she did it a couple days ago and i seriously thought she died i freaked out! i didn't know what was going on but shes done it a couple times after that shes just skittish i never had a baby chameleon before it sure is a challenge so stressful but so worth it, my boyfriend says i care to much about them cause im always making sure everything's perfect, i just want them to be ok and grow and be healthy.

If they are closely related I would advise you to separate them earlier than 4 months and not breed them. It sort of depends on how closely they are related, but it's best not to mate brothers and sisters.

ya i wont breed them i wouldn't want anything bad to happen to them, i have another veiled female that he fancies ha and ya im separating them tonight

Babies of any species are stressful and dramatic. It's living through that which makes us love them so once they start having ideas and issues of their own.
