STORY
______________________________
okay i went to my first reptile show

(i already have a crested gecko)(i had done a sh**load of research on chams before)
but....we met breeders of chams and i (kinda)
talked my parent to get me one (it was my b-day) :]
i got him yesterday and i fed him like 1-2 (dusted repti calcium d3) crickets cause we got home late
but today i fed him like 5 (undusted)but i noticed he is sleeping :confused:
right now its like (7 in texas)

at petco i saw uvb for 30 bucks -_- i thought it was 20
and at petco they only have rep cal with d3 and repcal herptivite
NO rep cal calcium
NO i have NEVER seen calcium at any stores petsmart petco and an exotic petstore
idk what to do now its barley the second day and hes sleeping could it be due to stress and no uvb/heat? :(
i THINK my parents might take me in a little bit to petco
does anyone suggest something should get?

plus its tx and when i went home it was pretty hot maybe hes dehydrated yes his urate was kinda yellow (im trying to fix that)

You'll rarely find calcium without d3 in petstores, order it online, and you need a UVB or your cham can die. You should have gotten everything before the cham.

How old is the Cham? Anyway - first things first - he needs to be warm. While you have no basking spot try to keep the whole cage at about 75F........Next get a uv bulb asap (reptisun or reptiglo 5.0 tubes are best). Find some Calcium powder with no d3 in it (order online if you can't find in the store). Make sure you have a good dripper and a pressure pump hand mister for a constant fine mist. You need plenty of branches and foliage in there to help him settle in, and do not disturb much for at least a few days......don't panic if he doesn't eat much in the first week. He should not be sleeping during the day though.....do you have a 12 hour on/ 12 hour off light schedule?

i feel like you have already been told what to do, you just have to do it. if you know you cant go buy calcium without d3 locally, then order it. i linked you to calcium plus in your other thread already.

for heat just grab a lamp (clip shot lights work good) and put a 40-60 watt incandescent (non spiral) bulb in it. make sure you have a digital thermometer probe on the basking spot so you know how hot it is so he doesnt get TOO hot. make sure you have a hygrometer as well.

youll be better off if you just order everything instead of going out to buy it. if you have sunshine and you take him outside he wont need uvb right away so youll save a a bit of money if you order it with the other stuff you need. if you order tonight or tomorrow you should have your stuff before the week is over..

no need to panic, your chameleon is not going to die without UVB :D. Save some time and money order everything online now or tomorrow and youll have it all by friday. Depending where you live and order from. LLL Reptile on the west or Pangea Reptile on the East. Check both websites to compare if you like. They have everything from your plain calciums to anything you need. Most prefer the reptisun 5.0 for UVB source. Make sure to get the fixture and the proper sizes as well. You can use basic house bulb from any store lowes home depot ect. not the spiral kind 40 watt-100 watt depending on your temps for a basking light. You might need to order the fixture for that as well Cheap dome.

Thanks everyone I might be able to buy a house light for his heat but then order a UVB and supplements.

BUT why was he sleeping yesterday?
Was he stressed or what?

he was sleeping like.. eyes closed or as in - he moved to a sleeping spot and was ready to sleep?

they tend to get into sleeping positions pretty early, some peoples go 15 minutes early, some people an hour, mine sits and waits for like 2 or so hours (i think its my light schedule though, he expects to to be dark sooner)

i think he was sleeping and it was like 6pm but today i dont think he slept hes asleep right now though its 10:17pm
i forgot to ask the breeders how old he was but he is like as big as my thumb so how much crickets should i feed him >.< i fed him like 6 or 7

if you cant afford a uvb light soon make sure your cham gets some sun.its really hot in texas right now so make sure he doesnt get over heated. hes a baby chameleon and at this stage in his life its vital to make sure hes getting enough water supplements and uvb lighting. buying online is always the cheapest way to go. petguys.com usually has stuff pretty cheap. if you dont have n e drippers you can get a plastic cup and make a tiny hole in it for him to drink. make sure its dechlorinated water or at least have the water sit over night before giving it to him. chams are alot of work so make sure you read up on everything you need to know about them.

i am unsure what causes them to sleep during the day but i know that its not a good thing if they are napping during the day time...

*update*
my mom let me buy a repti sun uvb and repcal calcium w/o d3 but how long would it take to get to texas? do they have slow shipping?

i dont think he slept today though

I live in Corpus Christi Texas and when i ordered my repcal calcium without d3 it took about 4 week days for it to come in

hmm okay so will my cham be able to survive till then? (ill take him out maybe when the sun is going down) i live in austin tx

I'd feed him about 12 pinhead sized crickets daily. Do you have pics of your guy?

I'd take him out either early in the morning or late in the afternoon when the sun is low in the sky and it is not so hot. Your chameleon will survive until you get your UVB light.

i live in austin too best thing to do is take hime out early morning. even late afternoon its still in the 100's here

i live in austin as well. theres a couple of good reptile stores off of burnet. one is triple a exotics and the other is zoo keeper. i know for sure they have calicum without d3 at triple a. you should definately check them out theyll be able to help you with all your chameleon needs.
