Repashy Calcium Plus is the bomb!! I added a cup for feeding to Gideon's upgraded cage, dropped some crickets and a freeze dried meal worm in there all coated, he devoured everything!!! He has only eaten a meal worm one other time... this time he scarfed it like theres no tomorrow. First day with repashy Ca+. :D

So you think it is flavored then for good taste? Also, I have never heard of feeding dead prey to chamleons. Do you think there is much nutritional value to an insect that is freeze dried? I know most members frown upon meal worms to begin with as not being that nutritional. Was just wondering what your thoughts were on that and why you are choosing dead prey over live....

Practically everyone on this forum will suggest live over freeze dried food.

Have you done research on chameleons?

You may be over-supplementing, though I wouldn't know if the food should be completely dusted because I haven't personally used any Repashy product other than CGD... but assuming it is similar to other calcium-dusting products, if you say they are coated and really are coated, it could be too much.

my crickets are gut loaded and fresh/live, the meal worms (dried) I only give him once.. maybe twice a week one worm. not even close to every day. I can't even remember the last day I gave him one.

I'm not sure of the nutritional value, I just figured a little variety would be nice for him. I also cannot stand wriggly worms. Don't ask me why just cannot touch them. I did buy some tongs so maybe I can invest in some live worms now... :D

I was going to look into blaptica(sp?) roaches, my SO is still against breeding roaches in our house. lol.

The smell/taste of the Ca+: sweet, very sweet, smells like a cookie mixture almost. he was pretty pleased with it though, blew my mind how quickly he gobbled his breakfast!

Leza, it's good you bought the tongs, but you must realize that wriggly worms are a part of a chameleon's diet. If you can't handle that, reptiles may not be your pet of choice.

yes... I have researched. I have not had any supplements at all before this batch, so I'm not sure how I could be over supplementing. I have had him a week and a half. From what I have read, and what people have posted here, the Ca+ is ok to dust every day.

Lol, sounds good........but who sells Chameleon toothbrushes?:D

yes I know i need live food, I am readily trying to get more live things, thats why i got the tongs. :D don't ask me to touch the wrigglers but i will gladly pinch them up! ;) guess I should have clarified that before.

Ok so I need to find a good live source.. I can't find a local store that carries anything other than crix, any good suggestions? Syn you are from here, what do you get? and from where?

You should read up on supplementing schedules across the forum. I'll get some links in a moment.

During the summer I have to get them from Petsmart, when it's cooler I try to buy online.

You're in Phoenix, I suggest checking out ARC (Arizona Reptile Center) off Dobson and (I think) either University or Broadway.. I'm bad with street names in that area. Pets Inc used to be good for crickets but now I wouldn't touch them with a ten foot pole, they have those nasty black field crickets that will tear a gecko to shreds given the chance.... and they charge just about the same as Petsmart when field crickets are cheaper than the brown version.

What part of Phoenix are you in, anyway?

regular calcium every day, switch off between a regular multivitamin and a calcium with d3 every other week.

I am in north phoenix, bell rd. I have been to arizona exotic predators and prey, cave creek and bell, but they charge MORE for a brown cricket than petsmart.

Never been to pets inc, have heard bad things about them, whether it be fish or reptiles.

I will definitely check out ARC.

what your opinion of super worms, and how is their care? I have seen cans of live ones at petsmart, but didnt have the guts to get them. may go out tonight for some.

if you cannot handle live mealworms, then forget supers! They are about 5 times the size! lol! Nice thing though, is you can gutload them like crickets. They are super fattening though as opposed to crickets. They can live in an oatlike substrate and just live on that alone but of course it is better to gutload them

I can't recommend Calciworms enough.....except my male is a fussy guy and won't eat them....my female loves them, you don't have to feed them or calcium dust them......look at some pics, but for wriggly worm things they don't look unpleasant (I never have much problem with that sort of thing though, been keeping what my Mum calls 'Squirmy things' for 17 years.......)

Pets Inc definitely has its good and bad... which is unfortunate considering they do have a nice store.

I like superworms, wouldn't use them every day. They can be a little more expensive than crickets. My chameleon used to only eat supers.

I'm trying to get better I swear!!! :D

I can look, I just don't touch. What's the reccomended amount of feeding time on these, like every other day, every 3 days? And how long do they typically stay a worm?

I said....no need to feed them, no need to dust them, you can keep them in the box they come in , you can order them online from some site sponsor (I won't recommend a particular one, because I've not used any of them). They are also called Phoenix worms:D, and they turn into these cool looking flies called Black Soldier Flies, also good and tasty- I genuinely can't recommend them enough:D (how are you with flies?)
If he likes them and keeps eating his crickets like a good boy then you'll be pretty much set........other stuff will always add to the fun though, variety is the spice of life.......
p.s. I did feed them butternut squash, even though I was reliably informed that you don't need to feed them - they loved it, and I know it's good for the Chams.....something just didn't feel right about keeping them for weeks without even giving them a last meal or two :)
