Hello yesterday i figured i may want a pygmy chameleon. Someone told me the 10 gallons are okay for 2 not pregnant females. Is that true can they last their whole life in the 10 gallon? Also what advice can you give me for the basking, i think they need no UVB i may be wrong, and what to put inside. Thanks again and i only want peoples help no fighting on why i wanna get one.:p
 
Mmh...That's a special topic. I mean they won't die because they are in a little in enclosure but because we are chameleonfans we should give them bigger enclosures.
Your females will also stress each other, because they probably will always see each other - that's not the best for their lifespan

You don't need a specific UV lamp, buy some cheap, normal fluorescent lamps and one spot for a few hours / day.

Julirs has some good thoughts about in on her homepage which help you to make a nice enclosure, on the chameleons online e-zine are also many good hints for a good brevicaudatus start :)
 
Probably yes. Depends on where you are living and where you place the enclosure. If you put it in a cellar or other rooms where it's not possible that it's getting too hot you can take small enclosures. When you have them in rooms where it can be up to 25°C you should take bigger ones, because in them you can make zones where the temperatures are different.

An example are too hot temperatures, they can hide in bigger enclosures better and they can find places where it's more humid and colder
 
First off, most people keep no less than a pair together either 2 females or a male and female. I have a 1.2 in a 30 gallon. The females NEVER have an issue with each other. Males however, YES, they are dominant and only one per enclosure. The females will sit next to each other and lay eggs together. Never heard of 2 females having an issue. a 10 gallon is fine for a pair. There are plenty of threads int he enclosure section under Pygmy.

No basking. They need room temps with a 10 degree drop at night. Basking would put them over and overheat them. 78 degrees is ideal. Debate on UVB. Doesnt hurt, but not sure if necessary as they probably dont get much in the wild due to being on the ground mostly. I dont use one. Had my setup for 9 months now, no issues but some people are adament and passionate that they need it. TO each their own.
 
Just because you couldn't see it they have "issues" with each other. They couldn't show it like other chameleons but it's a fact that they stress each other.
How long do you have your 1.2 group now together ?
 
As stated, 9 months. Everyone on here that I have talked to recommends keeping them in no less than a pair.

I know you are passionate about your chameleons and that is awesome, but I have yet to see osmeone report that one of their females beat up the other female. I have witnessed males side head butt each other, but never my females and I am in viewing site of them often.

Everyone is always going to have varying opinions on whats best for THEIR chameleon based on what information THEY have received as well as what works for THEM. This is what works for me. i did plenty of researhc prior as I lost 2 chameleons already and wasnt prepared. I got 5 of them originally. set them up 1.1 and 1.2. Sold the 1.1 so I could focuson ont he 1.2 as they were pregnant. Had them 9 months, no issues. Live, healthy, laying great eggs (got 6 outta one female when the average is 2-4). Healthy, happy, and living large.
