So I was showing off some of my cages pictures (like the one I built for ringo) and the pet store owner said he's interested in my work. He asked me to if I could built a couple samples and he will buy off of me and sell in his store! At first this was a hobby but to see someone actually like my work, I'm excited!

Bad news is we move in November :/

There is stuff like that in houston too. You could easily do the same down here and make some money. Materials are probably cheaper here too. Also make sure he gives you the money first and not try to sell them on consignment. Make sure if you build them for him he pays you for it.

Yea I'm worried about it as well. Can you guys do me a huge favor, can you log onto FB if you have it and like my page. Its Patty's Custom Cages... All I need is likes =)

Maybe I should just sell everything... No one wants to support me. So maybe I should just give up! Ideals that I thought would be neat my husband said no! I have no family behind me. So maybe I should just give up.

Don't give up. It's very fulfilling going out on your own and pursuing something, be it a "hobby business" or a full-time gig. Regardless of how small or large you're thinking right now though, you should write up a business plan. I know this may sound silly if you only intend to do this as a hobby and aren't expecting a large return of money. It doesn't have to be incredibly detailed either. The main function of the business plan is to display your goal, how you intend to reach it, and act as a guide for you so you don't forget or miss anything.

I'd recommend talking to the store owner and finding out exactly what sizes, accessories, materials, etc. they want. Then draft up an estimate for their approval. Make sure you specify when and how you want to be paid too.

This forum is also a network to assist you. You can ask people for ideas and opinions before you go and spend money on anything first. This is a huge benefit. Not all businesses have that going for them.

If you have any questions regarding starting out feel free to pm me.

Good luck
