i have a question for travelers

when traveling on say..a 6 hour trip to and from, and the place ur going to is where you will be staying for the next 2 days- would you take your chameleon? i can't decide if i should attempt leaving him at home or not. i'm sure he would be fine if i left him, but you never know. This would be his first trip ever. he is extremely hearty, and though i dont really want to take him (mainly out of consideration for his stress level) i might have to.

i mainly wanted some feedback on good ways to safely and happily transport him in my car. Or if not this, things i need to do to make it safe to leave him home alone for 2 days.

How old is he and what type of cham do you have?

2 days without food is ok but its hydration that you need to consider. Do you have an auto mister and a timer on your lights? If so that would be a better option if not do you have someone you trust that could mist him daily and turn on/of his dripper?

I travel a lot and out of personal experience find this an easier and less stressful on chams

well, he is an ambilobe panther, 9 months of age, i've asked my uncle who had chameleons when he was younger, but at the risk of something going wrong he didnt want to feel responsible, but hes a schizophrenic and its tough for him to do things like that. none of my other family members could really find time to do it....

How about a friend? a dripper isnt much responsibility, or putting a superworm into a feeding cup, and the chances of anything going drastically wrong in two days left "alone" is pretty minimal.

I never take my chameleons with me. I dont think they appreciate travelling like I do. For that reason I have two friends trained on basic chameleon caretaking, and a back-up professional reptile sitter.

i would say it would be ok, makes sure he is WELL hydrated before you go and leave him slightly more that you normally feed him, also have a dripper or 2. I honestly dont know why people say chams are delicates, they do fine if you leave them alone, as long as they have food and water of course. I would say he would be fine. Happy trails

Leaving him behind will be no problem.

Leave him an extra couple bugs in a dish for him to eat at his own leisure, and mist him really well.

I'd also set up a slow drip system as well. One drop every few minutes is more than enough, then just mist him when ya get back.

Just wanted to add Mist him real well and feed him real good before you leave.

I know they cost a lot but this is why i bought a auto mister. I as well was worried about the stress for such short trips. Now i have no worries...well i still find things to worry about when im gone But i always get back and he looks like he enjoyed his time to himself.
