I have a 4 - 5 month veiled cham (I don't know his exact age because the petco employees had no clue) amd I want to make sure this diet is normal

So far my cham is mostly only interested in food that moves, which is mealworms because since his size limits his diet this is the only insect I feel I can feed him, he eats about 12-18 every day.

The past two days he started eating fruit which he eats like a dog instead of using his tongue as he does with the mealworms, the fruit he ate was very small pieces of apple, strawberries, mango, watermelon, and blueberries.

His food is dusted with calcium A supplement every day and then a D# once a month.

Just wanted to know if this is a healthy diet. Thank you for all your replies.

Hi and welcome. :) So very glad you’re here. It sounds like you and your chameleon could benefit greatly from a husbandry review. Let’s make sure everything is perfect for your little guy or girl to stay happy and healthy. If you could fill out the following, someone can look it over and make advisements. Don’t forget to add pics of your chameleon and entire enclosure, including lights and floor.

Chameleon Info:
  • Your Chameleon - The species, sex, and age of your chameleon. How long has it been in your care?

  • Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites?
  • History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you.
Cage Info:
  • Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions?
  • Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule?
  • Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps?
  • Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity?
  • Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind?
  • Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor?

Hi:)

Have you tried feeding your Cham Calcium worms or small crickets? Variety is key when feeding them:)

Your supplement schedule seems a little off. You should try dusting your insects with calcium without d3 every day and once every two weeks dust them with a multivitamin that has d3
