Don't beat yourself up about it. now you'll just remember to take care when closing the door.

Just wait it out. If in the next few days it looks like it is functioning normally, things may be ok.
 
I did take care when I was closing the door. I always do. Are you trying to tell me that I'm reckless?

Never seen a tail go spastic before or it barely twitched out of the corner of your eye?

As most have said, things happen. Don't worry about it. It may or may not heal up. Time will tell. If the tail is damaged to a point beyond repair, you will see the area after the damage black as well and begin to shrivel a little and harden up. This is all normal. Just want you to be aware of what the worst case senerio would be.
We all hope this is temporary injury and everything gets back to the way it was.
 
Sorry Kevin I'm just getting upset about this. I have to go to bed.. it's nearly midnight and I've been looking at him for the past... 3 hours or so trying to make sure he's fine.
 
Looks like its getting darker to me... Hope he heals up soon. and hope that you both get some sleep.. Sorry bout your cham getting his tail stuck, and yeah Dont feel so bad, accidents happen :cool:

Dittos ... or even better, a topical antibiotic, such as Gold Bond, Bacitracin, Triple-Biotic, etc, and put a light coat on the entire damaged area at night. Tail injuries, and eventual "dead tail", are prone to infection, complications due to insect munching, etc. We ALWAYS treat such surface injuries with topical antibiotics. Good luck.

I know nothing about any of this medical stuff... but looking at the "glove" pictures, it seems like it is not that severe!

My gut feel is that it will heal right back!?

I totally agree, it seems like chameleons are lil kids... mine, sometimes when i open his cage he comes running to me, and gets on my arm, although, one time i didnt notice her coming, an i got my arm out, before she got on it, and she fell a foot... i felt bad and she was fine! i probably hurt more then she did... :rolleyes:
 
Well thanks for making fun of my mom's gloves guys - we aren't gardeners and she found those first - it was the only hand protection I could find!

I will get pictures of the tail again later - I was suggested to use neosporin? It's all I have for now.

As Lance said, time will tell. Just check on it once a day to make sure its not injected. Before you know it the injury will conclude itself.

If you can get your hands on silvadene, it will keep open wounds from getting infected and help heal it up.

The issue with tail injuries is that chams use the tail for a lot of stuff and ointments get wiped off as they move about.
 
Well when he straightens it out it's bent a bit. I think it's fractured but he can still move it. It's not black anymore, but it's pretty dark green. For the most part he seems to be able to move it just fine, maybe it's sprained? Who knows. I hope it doesn't fall off or get worse from here.
