I found a vet!

Luckily there is an exotic vet at the animal hospital in the next town over. My cham has an appointment on Monday AM. I need to know if he is healthy so just a routine check-up-- my mother laughed at me. I really wish people would take my chameleon seriously but whatever. I am worried about upsetting him though. I don't handle him and he's an angry little guy who gapes and hisses. He will be going back in his PetSmart box

Try to take a fecal sample with you. If he goes the day before put it in a plastic bag and store in the fridge over night (your mom will love that).
I plan to bring a fecal sample and thankfully don't live with my mom anymore lol

When you go to your appointment, you can also ask for the cups that they use for fecals, it usually has a spoon in the lid to retrieve the sample. My vet just gave me a handful of them just in case.
I didn't have to pay extra or anything, hope this helps.

Just use a little plastic bag. Better and less expensive for everyone: Your vet saves a few cents and you do the environment a favor.

My vet took mine out of the plastic bag and tossed the sample right into the bottle anyway. I'm sure each vet has his/her own way of keeping samples in the office. My vet likes sealed container .

Your vet must be sending it away. My vets do it right at the office. It goes from the bag onto a microscope slide. I don't want them to send it away--I want it done on fresh stool, not two day old stool. Some parasites cannot be found in older stool

That's fair, but how can you possibly assume that just because it's in a cup or a bag that my vet is not looking at the sample right away or sending it away for someone else to look at.

Because when you bring in a stool sample, they don't handle it until they prepare it to look at under a microscope. They just don't take them out of bags to do an in-house. No one wants to handle feces, even vet techs. I've seen how a lot of different vet clinics handle my chameleons' stool samples and never once have they transferred it to a new container to do an in-house pathology. I've spent well over $1000, probably well over $2000 on stool samples in the last two years. Because they put it in a container that they paid for, I am pretty confident they are sending it away. Why don't you ask?

Most times I have brought a sample in it was with a appointment, the lady at the counter put it In the cup and they examined the sample and gave me the results, all in the visit.

Most recently I dropped of a fresh sample off, and the vet called me with results in an hour to hour and a half.

How can this be done if it's getting sent away, like I said before different strokes for different folks I guess.

Bottom line is I use cups that the vet gives me to retrieve poop. They didn't cost me. Was just giving and alternative to having a poop bag in the fridge overnight. Sorry.
