I feel like such a jerk!!

I was checking the moisture level by weighing each bin with the eggs from Roxy's first clutch.

There a 3 containers, I picked up the 3rd box, and I tumbled out of my hands about 10-12 inches onto my bed, the lid was still secure but now they were upside down in the hatch right.

They were 22 weeks the day I did this. I tried to candle them to see which end should go back into the hatch right. I thought I did it correctly.

A couple of days later, the eggs are now sweating.. I feel so stupid, I cannot believe that I dropped the babies..

Anyway, do you think the sweat is a sign of immenent doom or just the change of temp, from my room to the humid/warm of the larger box I keep the smaller bins in ?

If anyone has experience with this, please let me know..

How long have the eggs been incubating?

sweating is normalyl a sign of hatching time is soon.

Agreed, the only time I personally have ever seen eggs sweat was just before they began hatching...If I am correct your eggs have been incubating nearly 6 months? You might have just triggered a premature hatch date...I have never had this happen to me, but I wouldnt get too down on yourself, eggs arent as fragile as everyone likes to believe, especially ones that have been incubating as long as yours have. Good luck, let us know how it turns out!

Not meaning to rub salt in the wound, but this reminded me of a quote...

"Never, ever... drop your egg."

You watched Happy Feet, right? :D

Sweating is a good sign. I'm pretty sure the eggs are alright--as camimom said, sweating is usually a sign that they are close to hatching.

I only get two at a time from the cresties, but I put a little pencil x when I put them in the hatch-rite, so easy to turn them when candling. Good luck.

If it makes you feel any better, I dropped a container holding about 6 eggs once. Didnt attempt to put them back in any particular manner (had not marked them, did not candle them, just plunked them back in).
They all hatched FINE.
Im sure the stage of development matters as to how bad an effect a drop might have. But hopefully yours will be fine too.

thanks

Thanks to everyone who responded, they were 22 weeks, just a few days over 5 months.

I was not too sure hatching at this time would be good for them. When I was candleing them. They did not look as though there as form in there.

sweating Eggs getting soft

Hi I just wanted to know if the sweating eggs that are do to hatch also get soft under the sweating. I am hoping the eggs getting soft is a normal thing, but because I flipped them around, I am thinking it is a bad sign.

Anyone know if this is normal or if you think that could be a proplem. I just did not expect them to hatch at 5 months, what if they are not fully formed?

It is normal for them to shrink and get soft before they hatch after they start sweating. My eggs always hatch out at about 7 months and and have always been very healthy. I had an egg roll late in incubation period with no I'll effect. I think you have a good chance at close to 6 months of everything working out fine. Good luck :)

Now some are molding..

Roxy's eggs are 24 weeks now. the two bins that were not disturbed are nice white and no changes, the one bin I candled after disturbing it, they started to sweat, then they got blotchy, kinda soft and some have begun to mold.

Not sure if it was them getting turned upside down or the candling that started the sweating..

Will they die/mold if they start to hatch and they are not old/formed enough to get out of the egg?

so far only 2 have molded over, I am thinking I should try to look into the ones that have stopped sweating, maybe they are awake and stuck cause they are little.

I am glad at least the other two containers are doing fine.
